Pablo Ziegler's New Tango Ensemble & Paul Taylor Dance Company at Lincoln Center Out of Doors Aug. 1

Latin Grammy-winning pianist Pablo Ziegler and his New Tango Ensemble join forces with one of the titans of modern dance, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, at the Damrosch Park Bandshell on Friday, August 1 for Lincoln Center Out of Doors.

The evening opens with a performance by Pablo Ziegler's New Tango Ensemble, who will present several Ziegler compositions, as well as works by Astor Piazzolla. The evening's second half sees the Paul Taylor Dance Company performing seminal revivals, including the evening's centerpiece, Piazzolla Caldera (1997). For this evening's performance, Pablo Ziegler and his ensemble will perform the Piazzolla Caldera score live with PTDC in a World Premiere collaboration commissioned by Lincoln Center in celebration of PTDC's 60th anniversary season.

Described as "one of Taylor's most astonishing…creations, " (The Financial Times, London), Piazzolla Caldera is Taylor's poetic exploration of tango's sultry, raging essence. Ziegler, who performed in tango grand-maestro Astor Piazzolla's legendary quintet for over a decade and appeared on iconic Piazzolla recordings, is considered one of the most important figures in Argentine New Tango, the vibrant hybrid of classic tango and American jazz.

Pablo Ziegler and the Paul Taylor Dance Company will then reunite at University of Minnesota's Northrop auditorium in Minneapolis on September 27 for a repeat performance of Piazzolla Caldera with live score performed by Ziegler and his ensemble. While in Minneapolis, Ziegler will also perform with his ensemble at the Dakota Jazz Club on September 26.

Ziegler's upcoming touring season continues with the premiere of Two To Tango, a new two-piano program with Christopher O'Riley at the Catskill Mountain Foundation in Hunter, New York, on August 31. Following their touring success with Los Tangueros, a program of Piazzolla tunes arranged for two pianos, Ziegler and O'Riley reunite with Two To Tango, this time highlighting Ziegler's own compositions in two-piano arrangements. Subsequent US touring for Two To Tango includes dates at George Mason University (Fairfax, VA), Troy Savings Bank Music Hall (Troy, NY) and many more.

Other season highlights include an appearance by Ziegler and his trio as guest soloists with the Colorado Symphony in Denver on February 20, 2015. The Pablo Ziegler Quartet for New Tango headlines the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival in August, with other upcoming dates at Duke University, Soka Performing Arts Center in California and more.
