July Jazz at the Inkwell

PLG Arts Jazz at the Inkwell series is proud to present our July program:
Friday, July 11, 7-9 pm: Michael-David Gordon Quartet
Singer and actor Michael-David Gordon is a dynamic entertainer who explores standards, pop, and R&B, drawing on his experience singing with the Temptations, acting with Irondale Ensemble Project, and fronting the Pocket Band, featured in one of Times Square's most successful restaurants. Michael-David will premiere his new quartet at the Inkwell Friday, July 11. The group, which includes John Landers, piano; Pierre Morquart, bass; and Hollis Headrick, drums; is equally at home with music from Cee Lo Green to Duke Ellington to Bruno Mars to Otis Redding. Michael-David's vibe is accessible, funky, swinging and always fun!

Friday, July 25, 7-9 pm: The Jocelyn Medina Quartet
The sounds and styles of internationally acclaimed vocalist/composer Jocelyn Medina cross cultures, creeds and continents. Her original work fuses elements of world music with jazz harmonies, neo-soul/funk grooves and adventurous improvisations delivered through compelling lyrics and a distinct sound. Jocelyn seeks to touch on each listener's individual experience with messages of universal truth and a unique artistic approach.

Back in Brooklyn after 6 months in Mumbai, Jocelyn continues to merge genres and defy classification. She returns to the Inkwell with unreleased material from her third album (to be recorded this summer) in addition to music from her last CD, "We Are Water." Whether from the stage of an international festival or in the intimate setting of a small jazz venue, she seeks to touch on each listener's individual experience with messages of universal truth and a unique artistic approach. Click here to hear a sample of her music. The band: Jocelyn Medina-voice & compositions; Rez Abbasi-guitar; Zack Lober-bass; Paul Wiltgen-drums.

Please join us Friday, July 11, and Friday, July 25, 7-9 pm, for two exciting evenings of music at the Ink Well Cafe, 408 Rogers Ave, between Lefferts Avenue and Sterling St., Brooklyn, NY.

Jazz at the Inkwell is a continuing series that brings jazz to Prospect-Lefferts Gardens on the second and fourth Friday of each month (except August, since we all need a break). These events are made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the NY State Council on the Arts, administered in Kings County by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
