Steve Slagle - The Music of Charles Mingus + More

Alto saxophone master Steve Slagle has performed and/or recorded with some of the greatest names in modern jazz, including Steve Kuhn, Carla Bley, Joe Lovano, Machito, Jack McDuff, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Ray Barretto, and Milton Nascimento to name a few. Steve has recorded many albums as a leader of his own groups and in partnership with long-time collaborator, guitarist Dave Stryker. In 1991 Steve became lead alto saxophonist, arranger, and musical director for the Charles Mingus Big Band – a position he held for many years.

It's Slagle's extensive experience playing and arranging the music of Charles Mingus that will be featured at this concert. Steve will be joined by several other Mingus band alumni – Helen Sung-piano, Andy McKee-bass, and Steve Johns-drums – all outstanding masters of their respective instruments.
