| Cheryl Barnes Performed Songs From Her New Chart Topping Jazz Album Eclectically-trained Jazz vocalist Cheryl Barnes hit the stage in Beverly Hills this month on May 15th at the House of Music & Entertainment (H.O.M.E.). This show gave listeners a chance to enjoy an evening of Cheryl's smooth vocals and exquisite cuisine. Accompanying her was her husband and musical director, Philip Cabasso, and some of Los Angeles' greatest players. Cheryl sang chart-topping singles from her newest CD release "Listen To This." Furthermore, the great company and extraordinary talent along with Cheryl's timeless charisma rendered the show and her latest album, "Listen To This, " a success! "Listen To This, " was just released via Barnes & Cabasso Music. Highlighting twelve tracks steeped in Jazz and Blues, her album was produced by music industry veteran Rahn Coleman. It was recorded at Mystic Knight Recording Studios in Los Angeles and features a stellar list of sidemen including Brandon Fields on Sax, John Hammond on Piano, and Rickey Minor on Bass with Orchestration by John Beasley. Her singles "Like Jazz" and "Come With Me" have helped her album climb the Smooth Jazz charts in all areas. Barnes' chart positions include #21 on the Smooth Jazz Radar chart, #35 on the Smooth Indie Star Chart, the "most added single" on the Radio Wave Internet Airplay chart, #57 on BDS-Broadcast Database, #52 on Mediabase, and #3 on the Top Ten Albums from SoulTracks.com! Aside from being chart-bound for the top 50 on the Smooth Indie Star chart, Cheryl is also blowing up on over 50 traditional radio stations plus numerous specialty shows and online music shows. A sought-after vocal clinician conducting numerous workshops and clinics across the U.S., Barnes is a founding member of the Jazz Vocal Coalition and retains an esteemed musical presence in Los Angeles, having been heard on stages ranging from The Los Angeles County Museum of Art's prestigious Friday Jazz Series to the Hollywood Bowl to the House of Blues. Singing in four different languages, Cheryl has performed around the world (including shows with Wynton Marsalis, J.J. Johnson, Quincy Jones and a guest member spot with the Clara Ward Gospel Singers), and has recorded with the likes of Skip Scarborough, Azar Lawrence, Billy Mitchell and Cathy Segal-Garcia. Barnes' varied background makes itself apparent in the choice of songs which she has chosen to sing on "Listen To This." From Mark Winkler and Marilyn Harris' lovely portrayal of a veteran Jazz singer with an extraordinary life in "Afternoon In Harlem" to the spirited, party-like jazz vibe of the title track "Listen To This" (written by Barnes' husband -arranger, musician, physician Phillip Cabasso) to Barnes' own, powerful interpretation of Joni Mitchell's "Come In From The Cold, " Barnes' album is amply reflective of her deep-rooted musical training as well as her love of infusing different musical styles within her chosen material.
