Jazz at the Maverick

Maverick Concerts announces the opening of "Jazz Festival at the Maverick, " its annual four-concert series within the regular Maverick season, the oldest summer chamber music festival in the country.

Perry Beekman & Friends
On Saturday, Aug. 3, at 6:30 pm, Woodstock guitarist and vocalist Perry Beekman will perform a program of songs by Rodgers & Hart, with Peter Tomlinson at the piano and Lou Pappas on bass.

Composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Lorenz Hart were among the blue-ribbon songwriting teams of the first half of the 20th century. At their peak, they were producing as many as four Broadway shows a year, and and their partnership spawned numerous hits, including Pal Joey and On Your Toes. Many of their classic songs are still part of the standard repertoire found in the Great American Songbook: "My Funny Valentine", "Falling in Love with Love", "Mountain Greenery", "My Heart Stood Still", "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", etc.

Perry Beekman's music is deeply rooted in the classic traditions of jazz. He has performed at the Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel, and the JVC and River to River Jazz Festivals in New York City. Peter Tomlinson teaches jazz piano at Western Connecticut State University and Vassar College. Lou Pappas has performed at jazz festivals across the United States and is Adjunct Artist in Music at Vassar College. He retired in 2006 as bassist with the acclaimed U.S. Military Academy Band at West Point.
