Australian Singer Wendy Saddington Dies

Australian jazz and blues singer Wendy Saddington has died after losing her battle with oesophageal cancer. The star passed away at her home in Melbourne on Saturday (22Jun13) and her death was announced via a statement posted on her Facebook.com page.

The post reads, "Our beloved friend Wendy Saddington... passed very peacefully away a few hours ago in her Melbourne home. Every one of your kind words and prayers are appreciated."

Born in 1949, Saddington kickstarted her musical career as a singer for soul band Revolution in 1967, and she went on to perform with groups including The Chain and Copperwine.

In 1973, she appeared in the first major Australian stage production of The Who's rock opera Tommy and she revived her music career in the 1980s by forming the Wendy Saddington Band.

More recently, Saddington provided three tracks for the 2003 album Women 'n Blues.
