Jazz Forum Arts announces its 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition Winners from our Saturday, June 15 Event, held at the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, New York. Westchester County's Premier Presenter Of Jazz Picks Nine Artists To Be Featured In Its 2013 Summer Concert Series

Jazz Forum Arts (JFA), the top presenter of jazz artists in Westchester County, announces today its winners of its 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition. Held on Saturday, June 15th at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, JFA's 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition auditioned vocalists for the opportunity to showcase their artistry during JFA's 2013 free Summer Concert Series.

The 2013 winners of JFA's 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition are

-Kimberly Hawkey of Dobbs Ferry, NY

-Taeko Fukao of Astoria, NY

-Yvette Bowen of Bronx, NY

-Kelly Green of Fairlawn, NJ

-Tak Iwasaki of Woodside, NY

-Chris Conte of Dobbs Ferry, NY

-Ayana Lowe of NYC, NY

JFA's "Rising Stars" (Jazz artists who are 18 years of age and under)

-Sierra Nelson of Cortlandt Manor, NY

-Mariah Cameron of Yonkers, NY

-Anabel Backrach of Yonkers, NY

"JFA and its Board are thrilled by the extremely positive response we have received for the second year of our vocal jazz competition, " said Mark Morganelli, Founder andExecutive Director of JFA. "We had some wonderfully talented artists participate in the competition and are truly grateful to all of them, including our fabulous judges. Onceagain, our winners are stellar and we at JFA look forward to presenting them this summer during our concert series at Dobbs Ferry on August 21."

JFA's 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition auditioned jazz vocalists, from soloists and duos to a cappella groups. Auditioning jazz artists were judged on how well they sang in the jazz style (i.e. phrasing, musicality, scatting, performance and tone) and overall performance. The 2013 judges for JFA's 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition were veteran jazz drummer and vocalist, Tony Jefferson; Grammy-nominated vocalist and Adjunct Jazz Professor for the New School, Janet Lawson;JFA Board Member, Debra Del Toro-Phillips; JFA Board Member and accomplished jazz vocalist, Tyrha M. Lindsey, and 2012 JFA Vocal Jazz Winner Alexis Cole.
