Umphrey's McGee, STS9 Announce Co-Headlining Tour

Umphrey's McGee, prog-rock purveyors of "impeccable playing and pristine arrangements" (Village Voice), is joining forces with STS9 for a 14-date co-headlining tour this summer, kicking off Thursday, August 15 at the Louisville Palace Theater in Louisville, KY.

The two groups, who will switch off headlining duties each night, will hit Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Raleigh, Philadelphia, Boston and other major cities throughout the two week run, which wraps Sunday, September 1 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. Tickets will be available for pre-sale starting on May 1 and general on-sale May 4.

Umphrey's McGee, who rang in their 15th anniversary this year with a sold-out show at New York City's famed Beacon Theatre, is mounting several groundbreaking projects leading up to the STS9 tour. Last week the band put on UMBowl IV, their annual hometown concert in Chicago where fans have complete control over the event via text message, determining the musical and vocal themes and even the instruments the members play.

In the same innovative spirit, Umphrey's is currently expanding their "Headphones / Snowcones" project, which lets concertgoers rent specially designed Audio-Technica headphones and Sennheiser wireless packs to hear a pristine sound mix straight from the soundboard. In June the band is hosting sUMmer Scool, a five-day music camp in the Catskills where fans join the band, crew and management for performances, workshops and other group activities, "expanding the notion of what a rock band can offer fans" (Time.com).

How else can a band be relentlessly innovative in both music AND fan relations for 15 years? Formed in 1997 at the University of Notre Dame, the band has cultivated a loyal and rabid fanbase from all over the US and beyond, incorporating a sophisticated mix of cutting-edge technology, a stellar light show, and a multi-genre explosive experience complete with playful covers (ranging from Toto to Metallica). Their latest release 'Death By Stereo' (ATO Records) is a concise, melodic batch of clever arrangements with meticulously crafted chordal interplay and virtuoso instrumentation that puts Umphrey's McGee in a category all their own.

About STS9:
Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9), formed in Atlanta over a decade ago, has risen to the forefront of the international music scene. Consistently ranked among Pollstar magazine's list of top-grossing touring acts, STS9 boasts a genre-defying list of opening acts along the way including Snoop Dogg, Ghostland Observatory, Bassnectar, Thievery Corporation, Pretty Lights, Big Boi of Outkast and countless others. The now Santa Cruz-based quintet has sold out the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado; performed at Ultra Music Festival, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival among many other top festivals; sold out shows across the country as an acoustic set-up in opera houses or as an electronic act in amphitheatres; performed with Jay-Z in arenas; and have raised significant amounts of money towards activism efforts (including $150, 000 to the Make It Right Foundation, paving the way to rebuild a house in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans).
