Madeleine Peyroux To Release New Album 'The Blue Room'

Critically acclaimed artist Madeleine Peyroux is excited to debut her new album The Blue Room one week before its release on The Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy.

Set for a March 5 release and available in Starbucks across the country, The Blue Room sees Madeleine and longtime collaborator / legendary producer Larry Klein re-examine Ray Charles' classic, and one of his most controversial albums, Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music.

Praised by Paste Magazine for her "impeccable taste in material, " The New York Times spotlights Madeleine's vocals for "its powerful echoes of Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday" adding, "she's refined a style that blends elements of jazz, folk and blues into a delicate quasi-30's and -40's period sound that is sophisticated." NPR adds, "there's something thoroughly modern in Peyroux's sexy, sultry delivery."

Madeleine will kick off her world tour on March 22 with two nights at New York's famed Lincoln Center, plus intimate sessions with WFUV and WXPN.

Madeleine and Larry's concept was in no way intended to replicate the instrumentation, arrangements, style or sequence of Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music. Instead, the duo represented the artistic freedom Ray exhibited, using imagination to break down musical categories and barriers.

The Blue Room is an exciting record that explores new ground and reinterprets songs with an emotion and depth that can't help but touch the soul.
