The Relatives Go West With James Hunter

The Relatives' first tour dates to support their debut LP 'The Electric Word' will be a west coast run with The James Hunter Six. It took them over 40 years but they are finally releasing their first full length Feb 19 via Yep Roc.

Watch The Relatives, formed by reverend brothers Gean and Tommie West in 1970, rip through cuts from the new album on WNYC's Soundcheck: http://soundcheck.wnyc.org/2013/jan/21/relatives-gospel-funk-live-greene-space/

The album was produced by Jim Eno of Spoon, who called standout track "Your Love Is Real, " "one of my favorite things I've ever recorded." Watch Jim talk more about working with The Relatives here: http://bit.ly/XwGUNI

The band was just in NYC to play Lincoln Center, a WFMU benefit at The Bell House w/Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Joe's Pub. Lincoln Center's Bill Bragin says "The Relatives are relentlessly funky, deeply soulful and righteously heartfelt, fitting in that sweet spot alongside Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, Psychedelic Shack-era Temptations, Sly & The Family Stone and Mavis Staples. File this under: where have they been all our lives? And then just be grateful they've been rediscovered. A new classic."

The Relatives tour dates with The James Hunter Six:
3/7 - Los Angeles, CA @ El Rey
3/9 - San Francisco, CA @ Bimbo's
3/10 – Portland, OR @ TBD
3/11 - Seattle, WA @ Triple Door
