There are nightly concerts leading up to Friday and Saturday night performances that bring opera front and center on Friday and The Jason Marsalis Quartet and New Orleans jazz on Saturday.
On Friday mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, who has gained world-wide acclaim at international opera houses and concert halls, joins Canadian lyric baritone Gino Quilico who has performed with the New York Metropolitan Opera; Robin Follman, soprano, who made her Arizona Opera debut in the title role of Salome in early 2009; and another Canadian, Jeffrey Halili who performed in a recent New York City Opera performance of Verdi's Falstaff.
Francis Gouton and Eric Franceries on classical guitar and cello respectively perform Jan. 19, followed on Jan. 20 by the Miro Quartet, a young but already high-profile classical string quartet.
Since 1985, St. Barts has hosted a performing arts festival unlike any other in the world. Each year during January, more than a dozen nights of the finest live music and dance performances are offered in an informal, island setting. Audiences are treated to intimate concerts by some of the world's most prominent classical, opera, ballet, and jazz stars.
