| Ustad Zakir Hussain to perform during DSF 2009 Music lovers in Dubai will have a great opportunity to watch tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain in action when he performs this DSF on January 30, 2009, at the Dubai Tennis Stadium, Aviation Club. Also featuring world renowned musicians, it will be one of the momentous events when so many music greats get together on one stage. Aptly named Sangam, the concert will see geniuses like Charles Lloyd, Eric Harland, Sankar Mahadevan, U. Srinivasan, SelvaGanesh, and Taufiq Qureshi perform in a perfect rendition of 'East meets West' music. Tickets for the concert are available at www.timeoutdubai.com and all Spinneys outlets. Ustad Zakir Hussain, known for captivating audiences with his fast-paced beats and combination of multiple rhythms, has won numerous international awards and shares the same platform as his father, the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, regarded as the greatest tabla player of the 20th century. Yousif Mubarak, Chief Operations Officer of DSF Office said, "Hosting an artist of the calibre of Ustad Zakir Hussain is by itself an indication of the quality events that DSF organises for its visitors. The Sangam concert is just one of the many musical concerts lined up for DSF 2009 and these concerts are just a fraction of what DSF will present in terms of entertainment." On stage with Ustad Zakir Hussain will be the following artists: Charles Lloyd: An accomplished jazz musician, Charles Lloyd began playing the saxophone at the age of nine. His decades of experience have seen him perform with renowned artists from various genres. His best known composition is Forest Flower which became a huge commercial hit. Eric Harland: A jazz drummer from Houston, Texas, Eric Harland has performed alongside numerous Jazz greats. His style is described as dynamic, with an ability to play straight ahead and free with equal aplomb, and to move from delicate passages to ferociously bombastic soloing. Sankar Mahadevan: A successful Indian singer and composer, Sankar Mahadevan has lent his voice and musical knowledge to create some of the best hits in Indian cinema along with his partners, Ehsaan and Loy. Having learnt Hindustani and Carnatic music extensively, Shankar has performed with numerous jazz-fusion bands. U.Srinivasan: Upalappu Srinivas, is a musician in the Carnatic musical tradition of southern India. He came to prominence not only for his playing but for his choice of instrument: an electric mandolin (the acoustic instrument is incapable of sustaining notes or producing the "slides" between notes necessary for Indian music). In recent years he has toured with John McLaughlin as part of the group Remember Shakti. V. SelvaGanesh: Master of the Kanjira, a South-Indian tambourine, Selvaganesh gained world fame through tours with John McLaughlin''s group Remember Shakti. He has composed and produced albums, and has played with the Swedish bass virtuoso Jonas Hellborg. His debut international solo album was released in 2005 featuring John McLaughlin and other stars. Taufiq Qureshi:A fantastic percussionist and brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain, Taufiq Qureshi belongs to India''s first family of percussionists.
