Boz Scaggs Offers Seductive 'Invitation' To New Album 'Speak Low'

Boz Scaggs reveals his approach to creating his new collection of standards, 'Speak Low, ' was first, "to find an emotional connection." This goal is evident on "Invitation, " the opening track of this celebratory new album. When Scaggs sings of the "glow of temptation, " the multi-dimensional Grammy award-winning musician paints an autumnal love scene.

Scaggs explains, "We played around a lot with different tempos and feels, pushed the songs in different directions." The all-star band of keyboardist Gil Goldstein, percussionist Alex Acuna, bassist Scott Colley, vibraphonist Mike Mainieri and saxophonist Bob Sheppard, slows down the rhythm and lures in listeners with a come hither vibe. Scaggs adds, "Me, I stick close to the melodies... I am enthralled with the melodies. I don't go out and jump off the cliff, I try to find my place inside the tunes, by adding little rhythmic elements."

'Speak Low, ' the follow up to the #1 Jazz album 'But Beautiful, ' is out on vinyl September 30th and October 28th digitally and on CD via Decca. Scaggs will kick off a month long tour of intimate jazz clubs October 28th in Napa.
