Bill Frisell and Daniel Bennett Play Boston on August 16

Bill Frisell and the Daniel Bennett Group will play a rare double bill performance at the restored Cambridge YMCA Theatre (820 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA). Bill Frisell is one of the top rated jazz guitarists in the country. Bill Frisell has collaborated with Paul Motian, John Zorn, Elvis Costello, Ginger Baker, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright III, Van Dyke Parks, Vic Chesnutt, Rickie, Lee Jones, Ron Sexsmith, Vinicius Cantuaria, Marc Johnson (in “Bass Desires"), Ronald Shannon Jackson and Melvin Gibbs (in “Power Tools"), Marianne Faithful, John Scofield, Jan Garbarek, Lyle Mays, Vernon Reid, Julius Hemphill, Paul Bley, Wayne Horvitz, Hal Willner, Robin Holcomb, Rinde Eckert, The Frankfurt Ballet, film director Gus Van Sant, David Sanborn, David Sylvian, Petra Haden and numerous others, including Bono, Brian Eno, Jon Hassell and Daniel Lanois on the soundtrack for Wim Wenders” film Million Dollar Hotel. This work has established Frisell as one of the most sought-after guitar voices in contemporary music. The breadth of such performing and recording situations is a testament not only to his singular guitar conception, but his musical versatility as well. In recent years, it is Frisell”s role as composer and band leader which has garnered him increasing notoriety.

“Avante-Folk" Saxophonist Daniel Bennett is most known for his trance-inducing musical mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism. Bennett has traveled the country, performing at venues like Lincoln Center, Merrill Auditorium, Eastman Theatre, George Eastman House, Jordan Hall, Hale Auditorium, Open Fest, Six Flags Darien Lake, and the Rochester Lilac Festival. The Daniel Bennett Group has shared concert stages with the Charlie Hunter Trio, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood), David Fiuczynski (Screaming Headless Torsos), Denison Witmer, and LA-based synthpop group Joy Electric. In April of 2007, the Daniel Bennett Group released the epic full length album, A Nation of Bears on the Bennett Alliance label. In July of 2008, The Daniel Bennett Group released the second album in the “bear trilogy," entitled The Legend of Bear Thompson. Bennett is joined by longtime bandmates Brant Grieshaber (Guitar) Jason Davis (Bass) and Rick Landwehr (Percussion).

Bennett Alliance is a Boston-based record label and production company, serving the northeast jazz scene since 2003. Bennett Alliance was created by Boston Avante-Folk saxophonist, Daniel Bennett. The Bennett Alliance Concert Series is an ongoing concert event at the restored Cambridge YMCA Theatre. Recent Bennett Alliance events have featured the Charlie Hunter Trio, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood), Jerry Bergonzi, Daniel Bennett Group, David Fiuczynski, Quartet of Happiness , and Joy Electric.
