Vocalist Lua Hadar Adds A Twist To Jazz With New CD

Vocalist Lua Hadar with her band, Twist, will debut their new self-titled CD, at the historic Jazz at Pearl's, in the heart of North Beach. The Bay Area CD Release follows Twist's New York debut at the Iridium Jazz Club, which was named "New York's Best Jazz Club" by New York Magazine.
On May 29, TWIST rolls out their new CD to the Bay Area with Jason Martineau on piano, Andrew Higgins on bass, Dave Rokeach on drums, Patricio Angulo on congas and Tony Malfatti on reeds, with special guest Dave Miotke on accordion and headlined by the passionate Lua Hadar on vocals.

Hadar's return to Jazz at Pearl's to debut the new CD is fitting, since the band's performance at the club a year ago, called "top notch" by the San Francisco Bay Times, was a major stepping stone to the new recording. Jazz at Pearl's was named in the Top 30 Hottest Clubs Worldwide by Conde Nast Travel Magazine.

The new CD, Lua Hadar with TWIST, was recorded at Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael, which has recorded projects for artists such as Carlos Santana, Greg Allman, Huey Lewis, Rhiannon, Ledisi, Clairdee and many more. (www.laughingtiger.com)

Lua Hadar, intriguing "world jazz" vocalist is a refreshing revelation in passionate musical creativity. Her latest CD, Lua Hadar with TWIST (her sophisticated high-energy band), makes it clear that, as the name implies, their music keeps moving forward in unexpected ways.

Lua's success as a singer is not surprising considering that her father was a musician/bandleader, and the soundtrack of her New York childhood was taken right out of the Great American Songbook. Her unique musical skill set has classical and jazz roots, combined with a remarkable facility and love for the Romance languages, including French, Italian and Spanish.

Lua's lust for travel and cultural exchange has produced a cosmopolitan mix of original, international and standard jazz tunes "twisted" in a surprising fusion by Hadar and her musical director, pianist and arranger, Jason Martineau.

Extensive training and experience in theatre and cabaret have given Lua an ability to connect intimately with audiences and emotionally embrace her music. Completely at home on stage, she has a warm and generous way with both her band and her audiences. This is part of the reason why Lua and TWIST make regular return engagements to many venues.

When not touring, Lua Hadar and TWIST are based in San Francisco, frequently appearing in the Bay Area and in Los Angeles, at venues such as The Plush Room, Hollywood's Gardenia and M-Bar Supper Clubs. Lua is very active in the San Francisco Bay Area as a performing arts consultant and mentor. She maintains a private Vocal Studio where she trains professional singers and actors.

Musical Director Jason Martineau is an award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and instructor, and has been active in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1995. As jazz pianist, arranger and bandleader, "Dr. J" directs the 6-piece TWIST, comprised of piano, bass, drums, percussion, reeds, and headlined by Hadar on vocals. A native New Yorker as well, his association with Lua began in 2005 in San Francisco, with the production of her first solo CD, It's about Time (Bellalua Records, www.luahadar.com).

Dr. Martineau holds a Masters Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Doctorate in Composition from The Manhattan School of Music. His numerous compositions include works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo piano and chorus. He has also composed a full-length musical, multiple film scores, and over 200 songs, both instrumental and vocal. Dr. Martineau has recorded more than ten CDs, working in a wide range of idioms including world fusion, jazz, avant-garde, rock, pop, and classical. Martineau's original song, Floating Where I Have Never Been, a French and English jazz funk tune, has its world premiere recording on the new Lua Hadar with TWIST CD.
