Jonathan Russell, Jazz Prodigy Tours Hungary

Jonathan Russell, the twelve-year-old violinist from New York, will be making his European jazz festival debut next week at the Bohm Ragtime and Jazz Festival in Hungary. He will extend his tour of Hungary through two weeks with performances around the country as part of Hungary's annual Spring Festival. Jonathan has been touring to support his second album “Puttin On The Ritz" featuring jazz guitar icon Bucky Pizzarelli and several other east coast musicians that have been performing with Jonathan.

Known for his prodigious improvisations and awe inspiring technique, Jonathan has garnered critical acclaim for his creative performances at jazz festivals and parties around the country. The New York Times wrote of Jonathan when he was less than ten years old, “When he solos, he embraces his instrument and enters a private cocoon, where he conjures sophisticated improvisations on the melodies of jazz standards".

Jonathan has been a feature performer at major jazz U.S. festivals including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, the New Jersey, North Carolina and Great Connecticut jazz festivals. He has been featured at The Blue Note in New York City as well as the Highlights in Jazz Series and has performed at smaller venues such as Iridium and Birdland. In the past he has played with Bucky Pizzarelli, Les Paul, John Bunch, John Lamb and regularly performs with Ed Polcer in New York and Barbone Street Jazz Band in Pennsylvania.
