Joe Giardullo Plays the Music of Paul Motian

Soprano saxophonist Joe Giardullo's Language of Swans Trio play "IN & OUT of Motian - Music by (& for) Paul Motian" on Wednesday February 13, 2008 at The Cornelia Street Cafe, NYC. Joe's trio features bassist Reuben Radding and drummer Todd Capp. This is a special, rarified music, at once soulful and enigmatic, but always tuneful and compelling.

For almost 50 years, Paul Motian has been closely connected with the developments of modern jazz. Besides being a compelling drummer, he has been a one-of-a-kind composer, at once simple and complex, but always vital and to the point. From his work with Bill Evans to Keith Jarrett, and his own groups that have included David Izenzon, Charles Brackeen, Joe Lovano, Bill Frisell and many more important players, Motian has been a singular presence in the music. Joe Giardullo's Language of Swans Trio will play a night of Motian compositions and music that has been associated with the drummer over the course of his career. The instrumentation of the Swans' Trio intersects with Motian's beautiful trio with Izenzon and Brackeen, and that music is the jumping off point for this night.
