Andrew Hill Trio at William Paterson University

Famous pianist Andrew Hill will open William Paterson University's Spring Jazz Room Series, one of the most prestigious university-sponsored jazz events in the country, on Sunday, February 11. His trio will include Eric McPherson on drums and John Herbert, a William Paterson jazz alumnus, on bass.

While a teenager, Hill performed in rhythm and blues bands and with jazz stars, including Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. Hill made numerous recordings on the Blue Note label during the 1960s, and his distinctive compositions formed four of the six pieces on Bobby Hutcherson's recently re-issued album, "Dialogue."

Hill won both the prestigious Danish JazzPar award and was chosen the Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Composer of the Year in 2003. In 2006, he released a new Blue Note album titled "Time Lines."

Launched in 1978, The Jazz Room is one of the largest and most prestigious college-sponsored jazz events in the country. Performers include renowned professionals who encompass the complete spectrum of jazz, from practitioners of traditional jazz to avant-garde to bebop to swing to Afro-Latin jazz, as well as William Paterson's own student ensembles. The series has won numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for its innovative programming.
