Middle School Jazz Academy Performs Free Concert

Jazz at Lincoln Center premieres the Middle School Jazz Academy class of 2007 music students, in a one-hour free showcase concert on January 27, 2007. The performance will be held in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Jazz at Lincoln Center chose 15 students from four boroughs of New York City, in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades to be a part of the second annual MSJA, a tuition-free intensive jazz instruction program that takes place throughout the school year. Each student was awarded a full scholarship, based on application, audition and parent interview.

This unique program offers a course of study in instrumental performance, including a series of music lessons and broader youth development activities. Students have the opportunity to meet and learn from Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and other special guest musicians.

MSJA director, Eli Yamin, said, "It's a thrill to see these kids immersed in jazz and making it their own; improvising, swinging, surprising each other with what they've learned and accomplished."
