Penang Island Jazz Festival

The Penang Island Jazz Festival in Malaysia is back with it's 3rd Edition! This year's Festival which is Presented by DaimlerChrysler begins on the morning of the 30th of November with "The Jazz Appreciation Workshop – An Introduction to Jazz", part of the Jazz Study Tour, which was initiated in 2005.

A total of 11 Local and Foreign Groups will be performing on The Festival Main Stage in the Gardens of The Bayview Beach Resort in Batu Ferringhi on the nights of the 2nd & 3rd of December 2006.

In addition with the Main Performance Nights, Workshops / Forums and the Jazz Study Tour which received great response last year, other activities have been introduced as part of the Festival this year with the objective of creating a "Festival Experience".

The "New" Supporting Activities include : The Jimmy Boyle Young Talent Jazz Competition Finals on the 30th of November with the winner of the competition receiving the opportunity to "open" the main stage performance on the 2nd night of the Festival (3rd December 2006).

The Fringe Festival Corner which will be held at the lobby lounge of the Bayview Beach Resort, Batu Ferringhi, from the 1st to 3rd of December and the performers for the Fringe include Albert & Badar, Rhapsody, No Age Limit (featuring Andy Peterson, Genervieve and Arthur Kam) and Members from The Areca Centre of Performing Arts

The Jazz Spinners Series which will also start on the 1st of December 2006 at the Swing Pub of the Bayview Beach Resort with Deejays Groovedoctor, J-Sun and Bernie Martin.

The Jazz Gallery located at The Lower Lobby of The Bayview Beach Resort will house a Poster & Photograph Exhibition and will be one of the main venues for Workshops. The Gallery will also display The Artistic Works of 2 talented young Malaysia Artists – Justin and Krshna, with their own abstract interpretations of "Jazz"

The Penang Island Jazz Festival is Endorsed and Supported by Penang Tourism Action Council with Partners Astro, Rhythm MP, Light & Easy, Bayview Beach Resort, Heineken and Supported By Alliance Francaise de Penang, Tropical Spice Gardens, Starbucks, Goethe Institute, alldatjazz, Areca Centre of Performing Arts, Air Asia, InterGlobal Music, Godin and The Guitar Store.
