Game on for OUYA as it partners with WorldPay

Video game console OUYA has selected WorldPay, a global leader in payment processing, risk management and alternative payments, as its provider of global payment services.

OUYA, the highly anticipated new entrant into the games console market, launched in the USA in June 2013. The company offers more than 600 games available to play on the TV screen and free to play. OUYA also provides localisation of services in Canada and the UK. OUYA is based on an open-source Android format, making it possible for anyone to develop and publish games.

WorldPay was selected for its ability to advise OUYA on how best to access the global market, overall payments expertise and end-to-end payment services. WorldPay’s breadth and depth of payment options ensures OUYA will be able to implement relevant global and local types as the brand continues to grow its global customer base.

Julie Uhrman, OUYA CEO and founder, says: “OUYA is based on innovation and a desire to bring something completely new to the console market. We wanted to work with a provider that reflected this – WorldPay has already shown a willingness to develop a solution that meets aggressive timetables. As our business grows, WorldPay is able to provide consultancy on how to optimise for new markets which allows us to focus on building the best video game experience possible.”

Colin Murray, VP Video Games at WorldPay, says: “As OUYA continues to expand internationally, it can rest assured it will have a reliable partner that is able to offer services that maximise the company’s global reach and minimise risks associated with entering new markets.

“We’re excited to be able to support OUYA on its journey as it sets out to transform the video game market, and look forward to growing our services alongside the business, wherever it goes.”
