X3: Terran Conflict Announced

X3: Terran Conflict is a brand new, stand-alone PC game set in the universe of X3 to be released in the United States in October 2008. It is the culmination of the X trilogy, with a grand finale that takes the player all the way back to Earth's own solar system.

X3: Terran Conflict is a single-player space simulation featuring fast-paced first-person space combat, free-form, open exploration of a huge dynamic universe, and large-scale management of the player's own intergalactic corporation.

Here are just a few of the many things that a player can choose to do:
• Pursue the engrossing main plot and help make history (and possibly save the universe);
• Become a freelance pilot and pursue numerous side quests and missions;
• Build up your fortune through trading in the dynamic economy, and begin buying additional ships and hiring pilots to trade for you;
• Prey on the weak and innocent and become an infamous pirate, hunted by the police and military while hiding out in unstable border and independent sectors;
• Become a smuggler, selling illegal substances and weapons in secret to quickly pile up the cash;
• Work your way up to owning squadrons of fighters and even fleets of capital ships to become a dominant military power in the universe;
• Build factories throughout the universe to become an economic powerhouse.

"Build, Fight, Trade, Think" is the motto of the X-series, and X3: Terran Conflict is the most freeform and open in the series yet, allowing the player to play the way they want to, and letting the universe react to their actions.

Here are some of the highlights of the many features in X3: Terran Conflict which are new to X-series:
• New user interface allowing full control entirely using the mouse, including new and improved mouse flight controls;
• Several new races and factions, including Earth's main military force, the Terran United Space Command;
• Ability to enter and explore the Solar System from Mercury to the asteroid and dust clouds beyond Pluto;
• Independent, non-player owned corporations with their own unique ships and stations, offering new friends or foes to the player;
• New group management system allowing easier control of more ships;
• Over 100 new ships, including multiple new ship classes;
• Double the number of distinct weapons, including new weapons with unique abilities;
• Ability to board and capture huge capital ships with your own mercenaries and soldiers.
