The ghosts of Project Zero 3 The Tormented

One of the big differences between Project Zero 3: The Tormented and other horror games is that your opponents in this game are ghosts. These spectral apparitions have no solid physical form, which means that you never know where and when they might appear, making for a truly nerve-jangling gameplay experience.

Half-glimpses out of the corner of your eye, a sudden movement, a strange noise behind you ? Project Zero 3's tense atmosphere will crank up your adrenaline levels with an unprecedented cast of terrifying spooks.

For this third instalment in the series, Tecmo's Project Zero team have evolved the ghosts to make your encounters with them the most frightening to date. Hideous facial expressions and creepy eye movements have been refined and ghosts will morph into even more scary apparitions before your very eyes, ramping up the fear so far that you'll think your heart is about to burst out of your chest.

Not all ghosts will attack, though. Some are passive, and there is hidden significance in the actions of many those that endlessly wander the halls of the 'House of Sleep'. They might reveal their secrets by the paths they follow and the rooms they enter. The words they speak and the written items they leave behind also contain a wealth of clues about the message they want to get across. Listening carefully to their messages will help you to figure out the best way to proceed.

Pictures of ghosts sighted throughout the game can be recorded for posterity in albums, and the filament on your enchanted 'Camera Obscura' glows brightly when something supernatural is nearby. Be ready with your shutter button though; if you're too slow, you'll miss the chance of creating a photographic record of many of these ghostly encounters forever.

Project Zero 3: The Tormented for PlayStation 2 is released in Europe on February 24th.
