Email package for new Gizmondo handheld device

Gizmondo Europe Ltd. subsidiary of Jacksonville, Florida-based Tiger Telematics Inc confirmed the global release date for its email service on the Gizmondo multi-entertainment handheld as 28th October 2005, following on from the launch of the hardware this weekend in North America (22nd October 2005).

This latest application expands the communication functionality of the device from text (SMS) and picture (MMS) messages to include a fully-fledged POP3 email service, giving users access to their inbox anywhere within tri-band GSM coverage.

The application is available for a one-time charge for those downloading the latest service pack update and can be configured for a wide range of POP3 email accounts like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and mail services from other popular OSPs.

Steve Carroll, Managing Director, Gizmondo, says: "People are getting increasingly more dependent on email as a form of mobile communication and there's been considerable demand for us to introduce it on to the Gizmondo. The advantage for Gizmondo owners is they can send and receive email wherever they have GSM coverage, and you're not reliant sporadic WiFi access."

Gizmondo is powered by Microsoft Windows CE advanced real-time operating system, boasting a 2.8-inch TFT colour screen with a Samsung ARM9 400Mhz processor and incorporates the GoForce 3D 4500 NVIDIA graphics accelerator. It provides cutting-edge gaming, multimedia messaging, an MP3 music player, Mpeg4 movie playing capability, a digital camera and a GPRS network link to allow wide-area network gaming. Additionally, it contains a GPS chip for location-based services, is equipped with Bluetooth for use in multi-player gaming and accepts SD and MMC card accessories.
