ATF, Raging Tiger, Falklands '82 Upgraded!

While the developers over at ProSIM have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on their next magnum opus, The Star and the Crescent, being the troopers they are they've also been working on upgrading the ATF engine. The ATF engine, first featured in ATF: Armored Task Force, is the driving force behind all current ProSIM games published through Shrapnel Games. Boasting a level of detail not seen in commercial wargames, the ATF engine is capable of delivering the most realistic and hardcore simulation of modern ground combat on your home PC, second to none.

While there are a number of changes in the upgrades the one change that will have quite a few people thrilled is on the video card compatibility front. Some users in the past have experienced a few issues with the graphics, forcing them to either use a workaround or run the protected mode version of the games. No more! The problem, which stemmed from DirectDraw Acceleration, is now fixed and everyone should be able to run the games without resorting to digital jury rigging.

The following is a complete list of all changes in the latest upgrade. These changes affect all games in the current ATF lineup: ATF: Armored Task Force (now version 1.06), Raging Tiger: The Second Korean War (now version 1.15), and The Falklands War: 1982 (now version 1.22). A list of where to find the individual downloads can be found below. In the meantime, this is what all three games benefit from:

* DirectDraw Acceleration bug has been squashed! No need to disable DirectDraw Acceleration manually, or the need for using the "Protected Mode" startup.

* The search radius for support by fire positions and areas, along with the size of moves to bypass obstacles, is now scaled to the speed of units, as opposed to being hard- coded (as it was).

* The pH (percent hit) calculation is now modified to reflect the effects of a 'hold fire' order better. * Miscellaneous spelling errors have been corrected.

* Direct fire suppression was only reflecting weapon pK (percent kill) and now reflects the pK odds, suppression radius, and target protection value.

* Sometimes units that were detached from hierarchies and recalled created odd behavior when passing orders to units of that hierarchy. This has been fixed.

* In the hierarchy info window the user could lock up the entire game by clicking on the list boxes. This has been fixed.

* When closing some scenarios that included enemy obstacles and holes a CTD could occur. Fixed.

* Some situations could cause stopped hierarchies to move, or not display stop orders. Fixed.

* The view range of all M113 chassis vehicles, excluding the M981 FIST-V, and several similar vehicles, has been corrected.

Additionally, gamers who play The Falklands War: 1982 will have a few more fixes specific to their game. In the scenario 'Operation Rosario' some units would appear at the wrong time, or not at all. This has been corrected and the scenario now plays as it was intended. Two other scenarios, 'Goose Green' and the tutorial, also have had minor problems with confused movement toggles corrected. And as noted previously, all other fixes mentioned above are also included in the patch.

Finally, all three games have had their demos updated to reflect the current upgrades. If you haven't yet tried this award-winning lineup of real time simulations there is no better time than the present!
