Dach+Holz International 2020 with new hall concept

With a new hall and additional industry-specific forums: From 28th-31st January 2020, the Dach+Holz International will be inviting trade visitors to come and discover new trends in the market.

The Dach+Holz International will present a comprehensive range of information on the building shell and in the core areas of planning and building, all waiting to be found by carpenters, roofers, plumbers, architects and real estate professionals from Germany and abroad. In the following interview, project manager Robert Schuster explains the new trade fair concept.

The Dach+Holz International 2020 will take place as usual in Stuttgart. What sets this trade fair apart from its previous events? What's new? What's different?

Robert Schuster: We're completely redesigning the Dach+Holz International in Stuttgart, especially by adding another hall. The new Hall 10, completed in 2018, was immediately included in the trade fair concept. This means that six instead of five halls will be used in 2020. By doing this, we're aiming for a visitor-oriented layout with lots of variety, which in turn will make the trade fair much more engaging to visitors: The sectors of façade, insulation, and flat and pitched roof construction are spread out over three halls. In the halls, there will also be new information areas each with their own main themes. We are currently planning three forums in Halls 6, 7 and 9, offering sector-orientated lectures by experts in their fields; alongside practical tips for trade visitors. This allows us to give craftspeople some extra stimulation for their work - right in the middle of a trade fair.

What will be the highlights of the Dach+Holz International 2020 in Stuttgart?

Schuster: The trade fair will focus on three major themes crucial to the industry: digitalisation, occupational safety, young talent and employee loyalty. Companies are eagerly searching for qualified personnel. Meanwhile, young people are starting to have different expectations from their work and are contributing greatly to the digital transformation of companies. New solutions make physical work easier, especially for older employees. These themes can be experienced from the product side at the Dach+Holz International and the various sector-specific forums provide many best practice examples. A definite highlight will be the new young talent and employee day at the trade fair on Tuesday. Thursday will focus on digitalisation in the craft sector. An innovation path where digital tools can be tried out is also being laid.

What does the trade fair offer architects and planners?

Schuster: There is also a new format for this target group. We are setting up an architect's lounge with a "future shop" where new building concepts can be presented and discussed. The congress will also be extended from one to two days.

We understand that the road show "Triple Wood" will also make a stop at the Dach+Holz International.

Schuster: Yes, we are very proud of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing choosing to be present at our trade fair. Sustainable wooden structures from the Alpine states of Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland, and Slovenia will be presented. Selected leading craftsman companies will also give lectures detailing their work. We are also very pleased to host foreign delegations such as the IRoofA International Roofing Alliance, the IFD International Federation For The Roofing Trade, and the TCE Timber Construction Europe, the European umbrella organisation of the carpentry and timber construction industry.

To what extent does the trade fair play an international role?

Schuster: Whether it be tools, EDP solutions, machines or skylights, the Dach+Holz International is the only trade fair worldwide dedicated exclusively to roofing and timber. The Stuttgart trade fair venue offers our international guests an outstanding infrastructure. The trade fair also has excellent traffic connections; whether by car, train, bus or plane. Visitors can even walk to the halls from the Stuttgart airport. These advantages reflect the growing number of foreign visitors to the Dach+Holz International.

What makes a visit to the Dach+Holz International a must?

Schuster: Nowhere else offers carpenters, roofers, and plumbers a more comprehensive and in-depth range of information. With approximately 600 exhibitors, they have access to everything they need to know about new products and techniques and can even try out and compare products.

What makes this trade fair so unique?

Schuster: We are closely networked with the trade associations and market partners and are constantly focussing on trends in the industry and the challenges faced by the companies. This enables us to offer trade visitors industry-specific solutions for their businesses. The features that make the Dach+Holz International so special are the numerous practical demonstrations and the technical input on top themes such as young talent, digitalisation or occupational safety. Together with our sponsors, the Zentralverband des Dachdeckerhandwerks e.V. and Holzbau Deutschland, we have been able to organise an outstanding program for the Dach+Holz International 2020. We intend to offer a unique network for trade professionals, and I look forward to being part of this exchange in January!
