aquanale 2019: the most important meeting place for the international swimming pool and wellness industry

From 5 to 8 November 2019 the next edition of aquanale, the International Trade Fair Sauna, Pool and Ambience, will be staged in Cologne. Around 320 companies from 25 countries are heading to Cologne to showcase their innovations and latest product updates. Increased interest has been recorded especially in the private swimming pool sector, particularly from suppliers in the pool technology, pools and water treatment sectors.

For the first time, aquanale is bringing together the full range of products and services for the pool, sauna and wellness sectors under one roof. The "public pools" segment, which was previously part of the co-located FSB, will be integrated into aquanale, thereby uniting the private and public pools segments under one "brand umbrella".

aquanale now showcases trends for private pool and wellness facilities with sauna, whirlpool and spa, along with innovations, swimming pool technology and equipment as well as management concepts for operators of public pools, water parks, leisure pools and thermal baths.

In total, around 320 companies from over 25 countries are expected at this year's aquanale, of which 50 per cent are coming from abroad. The largest contingents from outside Germany came from Belgium, Finland, France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain and the Czech Republic.

The event occupied Hall 6 and around 40 per cent of the neighbouring Hall 7, clearly structured into the six familiar theme worlds: public pool facilities, swimming pool technology, private swimming pools, saunas & spas, private spas, and green living. Thanks to the new structure and the related comprehensive presentation of the different pool segments at aquanale, national and international trade fair visitors from specialised pool companies, municipalities, leisure and fun parks, architect's and planning offices, hotels, day spas, gyms, sanitary, heating and air-conditioning companies as well as premium private visitors can convince themselves of the comprehensive, innovative and very interesting spectrum of products, simply and with short routes. In addition, this year's broad event programme is guaranteed to provide international trade visitors and experts with added value and the edge when it comes to industry knowledge once more.

Almost all of the international who's who of the industry have confirmed they will attend the event in Cologne.

aquanale has recorded considerable growth in the sauna segment. Accordingly, this segment is presented in Hall 6 in an attractively designed compact area across almost 2,000 square metres.

As in previous events, the International Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum delivers the content framework between the questions and topics from the private and public pool sectors. Economic sustainability is therefore also on the agenda of the International Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum, the trade fair's congress programme. The focus here is on the selection of suitable operator models for public facilities. However, future industry trends will also play an important role, as well as the challenges brought about by an ageing society, growing urbanisation, increasing individualisation and the effects of climate change. The subject matter and contents of the forum, which will be of equal relevance to all industry target groups, will be overseen by the German Association for Swimming Pools and Wellness (bsw) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS).

The European Waterpark Association (EWA) together with Koelnmesse GmbH will be presenting a special exhibition entitled 96º, which will focus on new attractions for sauna and wellness landscapes in leisure pools and thermal baths. The deliberately ambiguous title – in Celsius the value corresponds approximately to the boiling point of water and the highest temperature in Finnish saunas, and in Fahrenheit to the temperature of the human body – alludes to the fact that visitors to leisure pools and thermal baths (and especially wellness areas) always experience new stimulation and sensations. The special exhibition will present innovations in sauna construction as well as the application of cold therapies and how they are featured in wellness worlds. "96º" is at the centre of the EWA Village, where the Quality Association of European Leisure Pools and Spas will present the performance of its member companies for the aquanale event.

The tremendous international significance of aquanale for the industry is also reflected in the fact that associations and institutions use the event as a perfect venue for presenting prestigious awards. Presented this year at aquanale will be the EUSA Award (European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations), the EWA Marketing Award, the IAKS Award (sports, exercise and swimming pool) and the Golden Wave (Schwimmbad & Sauna magazine).

Alongside the special exhibition presented by the European Waterpark Association (EWA) in Hall 7, the BDS Meeting Point (Bundesverband Deutscher Schwimmmeister/Federal Association of German Swimming Pool Attendants) in the same hall, and the bsw networking area in Hall 6 are also important contact points for trade visitors and exhibitors.

The special aqua fitness event area in Hall 7 will present the latest developments in different forms of the sport, including sports activities that are offered in public swimming pools but are seeing rising demand from private swimming pool owners who want to use their own pool for a targeted fitness and endurance training programme.

The trade fair duo of aquanale, the International Trade Fair for Sauna, Pool and Ambience, and FSB, the International Trade Fair for Public Space, Sports and Leisure Facilities, turn the fairgrounds in Cologne into the most important international meeting place for the public and private pool sectors, as well as for the amenity area planning and design, sports facilities and playgrounds, sports equipment, exercise areas and recreational facilities sectors.
