Digital&BIM Italia: The first national event dedicated to innovation and digital transformation in the Built Environment

The construction industry is experiencing a revolution and its future is closely linked to the digital transformation and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Bolognafiere, in line with a commitment that has existed for over 50 years with SAIE, has launched Digital&BIM Italia, the first national event for the digitalization of the Built Environment, scheduled for 19 - 20 October at the exhibition centre.

What does innovation and digital transition mean for the construction sector? How can the process be optimized, involving the entire supply chain from planning to the management of completed projects? Over two days companies, designers, businesses, contracting authorities and international experts will meet to discuss the best practices and the latest and most interseting digital news from the market. An event at which to see and discover the latest products and most innovative solutions, but also an opportunity for networking with the leading players from the world of engineering, those involved in energy requalification and recovery, and consultants from the real estate sector.

There will be talks about the themes of digitalization ad industrialization, 3D surveys and virtual reality and also ample space for software and the practices and projects already in use on construction sites.

"With Digital&BIM Italia, " announced Gianpiero Calzolari, President of BolognaFiere, "we are launching a new initiative that aims to meet the requirements of a platform for discussion dedicated to new digital technology for planning. Digital&BIM Italia aims to provide a contribution, " continued Calzolari, " to filling the technological gap, an objective that our businesses and designers consider one of the strategic priorities for the future of the sector. We do so offering an important scientific contribution and an opportunity for discussion with the leading international experts."

For who
A programme packed with initiatives organized in the dual form of exhibition and convention for professionals, constructors, producers, start-ups, public administrations, universities, BIM managers and utilities. Two days of in-depth observations with the leading experts from the sectors of construction and infrastructure, to reflect on the future scenarios for the sector, but also moments for learning and experimenting with the new processes linked to digitalization.

Why
The aim of the event is to provide an overview of the methods and tools that have already demonstrated their success in Europe and are establishing themselves in Italy, in order to increase the knowledge and the expertise of those who work with the new technology. Observing what occurs in the countries that are more digitally advanced and having as a reference the Digital Construction Week that takes place in October in London, but also BIM Munich scheduled for November and the BIM Forum that was held in the spring in San Diego, BolognaFiere with Digital&BIM Italia aims to become the location in our country for keeping up to date with, and discussing, the theme of the new industrialization and the digital revolution.

Digital&BIM Italia is an opportunity for everyone from beginners to key players and experts, to learn how digitalization can be implemented in operative procedures, to see in-depth studies and discuss new protocols and methods linked to the new Italian legislation; to learn about the latest innovations in seismic, energy or plant system modelling, and to explore new pathways in the future of construction, learning to make networks and save time and money.

On the agenda are also moments for study with top speakers and international guests. In parallel are the themed areas, with training workshops and the presentation of case studies of realities that are operating in Italy or abroad with strongly digitalized instruments and systems. In the exhibition area the companies will present new instruments for digitalized procedures and construction sites, such as design software, 3D printers, drones, support for virtual reality, digital manufacturing and IoT technology. Innovations are the fulcrum of the area dedicated to experimentation, a space open to the public to try out new instruments: digital photography as a tool for design and documentation, digital surveying from the air and laser scanners, how to construct an innovative model beginning from digital surveys of various forms, 3D and digital printers for constructions.

Credits for architects, engineers and surveyors can be obtained.

The market scenario
BIM is not just a fashion, "all of the construction industry is now aware that this is the future and that the gap needs to be filled. The market is ready, " explained Lorenzo Bellicini, director of Cresme, "it is necessary to invest to innovate the process and facilitate integration. In Italy 15 thousand architects use, or are beginning to use BIM in various forms; according to a study by Cresme that will be presented at Digital&BIM Italia on 19 October, for architects BIM is the second priority in the medium to short-term for the development of the profession, after the techniques for the reduction of seismic and hydrogeological risk. Also for Italian engineers, digitalization is among the top five priorities. The large Italian public and private contracting authorities are beginning to opt for BIM in their criteria; the industry has already started the BIM journey and is beginning to convert its own products in new archives, while construction firms are, perhaps, the slowest in adapting to the evolving scenario. Of course, generally speaking the journey will be neither easy, nor short, but there is no doubt that BIM is one of the certain routes towards the future development of construction. The question is not if it will happen, but when."

For Cresme, the figures confirm that the change has begun and that the future of a significant part of construction will be similar to that of the automotive or aeronautical sectors, where the optimization of the process, integrated planning, IT modelling, lean production and use of collaborative supply chains have revolutionized the productive processes and the market.
