Powder and bulk goods technology for every situation at the 20th Powtech in Nuremberg

Processing, analysis and handling of powder and bulk goods play a key role in many industries. Powtech 2017 will provide the opportunity to experience the latest systems, machines and technologies in these areas. As the world's leading exhibition in this sector, it will bring together 835 exhibitors from 29 countries to present a unique range of machines for grinding, separating, mixing, granulating, measuring, transporting and many other processes. For the 20th edition of Powtech, 39 percent of the exhibitors will be from outside Germany. Lectures, workshops and special shows in parallel with the exhibition make Powtech the platform where visitors can network and learn.

At Powtech, process engineering specialists from all sectors will gain a comprehensive overview of new developments relating to grinding, mixing, sieving, dispensing, conveying and weighing. Process-related technologies for analysis and measurement, for control and automation, and for environmental and employee protection also have a spot at the exhibition.

Key themes: pharmaceuticals, clean air, explosion protection
Two special shows set the focus: in Hall 2, the special show "Dust-Free Future" by the VDMA Industry Association for General Ventilation Technology will show how air stays clean in the production workshop, and the limits that have to be observed. And the special show "Focus on Pharmaceutical Solids" in Hall 3A, in an area of some 300 square metres, will bring together some 20 machines covering the processing stages from grinding to particle analysis. On the same theme, the new series of scientific seminars on Pharmaceutical Solids will include top-quality lectures, to be presented in the congress centre NCC Ost.

And Powtech wouldn't be Powtech without controlled live explosions in the outdoor area: once or twice each day, experts in explosion protection from the trade association Ind Ex e.V. will press the plunger and show the damage an explosion in the production area would cause, and how the energy from the explosion can be effectively dissipated for maximum employee protection. A running programme of lectures in two forums in Hall 2 and Hall 3A will pick up many other topics in the area of powder and bulk goods processing.

Innovations with practical value
Although the traditional methods used in mechanical process engineering have, in many cases, been known for centuries, the exhibiting mechanical engineers have countless improvements and many genuine innovations up their sleeves: the exhibitors have announced about 150 new product developments in advance. The drivers of innovation, once more, are digitalisation and metrology, along with a wish for greater energy efficiency and flexibility in production. In the food industry, for example, the trend is toward more and more individualised products and greater product variety – the processing machinery therefore has to be capable of handling fast and frequent changes of product.

Trade visitors will also find new perspectives in the "Generation Future" special area in Hall 3, where universities and institutions will exhibit their research into powders and bulk goods. Also in Hall 3 will be the sponsored pavilion for new and innovative companies, with seven start-ups from the process engineering industry.

20th Powtech in Nuremberg: "the No. 1 meeting place world-wide"
Powtech has been held in Nuremberg since 1984, and this year's show will be the 20th edition in that city. "Powtech is the No. 1 meeting place for the global bulk goods community, and the proportion of international exhibitors in this anniversary year is higher than ever before, " emphasises event manager Fischer. "Experts from the industry have literally been meeting here for decades. And between them, they have solved a lot of difficult challenges while here."
