Atkins' CEO Uwe Krueger at the Toronto Global Forum

This year the Toronto Global Forum was held against the backdrop of constant evolution in the world, not only economically but socially and politically as well. Today's decision makers must adapt to the new opportunities, and challenges, that arise to meet our global needs, such as providing infrastructure to a rapidly growing population. It was for this reason that the theme of this 10th Toronto Global Forum was "Leading in Uncertain Times".

Atkins' CEO, Uwe Krueger, attended the event and took part in two plenary sessions, the first on 'building tomorrow's infrastructure' and the second on 'infrastructure financing: finding new solutions to today's challenges'.

In the 'building tomorrow's infrastructure' plenary, Uwe participated alongside the Executive President of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Enrique García Rodríguez.

Uwe said: "The availability of money for projects is not so much the issue, to create bankable projects with enough investment certainty is the fine art of the game."

Uwe's main points in this session were:
• Value of collaboration
• Use infrastructure as a way of providing prosperity
• How to deal with projects that are big and complex:
- take a holistic approach to project management
- embrace technology to make sure you produce cost certainty
- stakeholder coordination to meet to enormous demands on the supply chains

Building Tomorrow's Infrastructure
The development and modernisation of infrastructure are key to driving economic growth and increasing a society's long-term productivity, yet the development of megacities and the dire need for basic infrastructure in many parts of the world are just a few of the factors making infrastructure development increasingly complex. Atkins' Uwe Krueger speaks alongside Enrique Garcia Rodriquez of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) about the main challenges, urban trends and financing issues of infrastructure development.

What is the Toronto Global Forum?
The Toronto Global Forum is a non-profit organisation fostering dialogue on national and global issues. It is held under the auspices of the International Economic Forum of the Americas (IEFA). IEFA organises annual summits bringing together heads of states, central bank governors, ministers and global economic decision makers. The Forum also offers exclusive opportunities for business meetings aimed at promoting partnerships among major Canadian and international corporations.
