More than 250 exhibitors at the ninth edition of Olio Capitale

More than 250 producers at Olio Capitale, notwithstanding the complex year for Italian olive oil producers. The Trieste exhibition of typical quality extra virgin olive oils, organized by Aries from 7 to 10 March at the Stazione Marittima and presented this morning at the Trieste Chamber of Commerce, is an appointment of reference for the sector on a national and international level.

This year it will be opened by the Right Honourable Colomba Mongiello, Vice President of the Anti-falsification Commission and member of the Agriculture Commission, promoter of a proposal for a law to protect virgin olive oils: "Let's start here, from the difficulties that the producers have had to face, but with a desire to react and look to the future with optimism; with great pleasure we will be there with the Right Honourable Mongiello, who is doing so much for the sector – affirms Antonio Paoletti, President of the Trieste Chamber of Commerce. These days will be a meeting from which new input and strategies for the sector will be gathered." As always the Italian producers will be dominant, but the participation of oil producers from foreign countries is growing, this year there will be producers from Greece, Span and Croatia.

Notwithstanding the difficulties, Olio Capitale continues to bet on quality, confirming the unchanged formula of the event and the competition of the same name: "Again this year we have maintained the duel approach of Olio Capitale: one for public education and one for the trade – explains Patrizia Andolfatto, director of Aries. The latter is very important, it is the one that has seen us grow over the years. The producers know that here they can meet buyers and professional operators from all over the world. They will visit the fair autonomously but will also be followed by us. We will prepare, step by step, a tight schedule of bilateral events for the producers. This year buyers have been invited from Canada, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Japan, and for the first time from Denmark. But we have already had spontaneous preregistrations from professionals from many other countries including Brazil, India and Turkey."

Business meetings, the possibility to taste hundreds of oils, but also a tight calendar of collateral events: "There will be technical meetings for producers mainly on Monday 9 March, the lessons of the Cooking School and many guided tastings – explains Alessandro Sietti, manager of Fairs and Events at Aries. In accordance with the level of knowledge of oil and the level of interest it will be possible to choose from the many types of activities: tastings with Marco Oreggia, editor of the Flos Olei guide, the mini tasting courses that allow participation in the Olio Capitale competition people's panel, the explanations of the experts at the Oil Bar, or the tastings of table olives. Again this year, at the Cooking School, there will be about thirty lessons, 100-150 people will alternate and collaborate in the hall and the kitchen, and we will propose combinations of oils and food, focusing on 'cucina povera' and children's food, " adds Emilio Cuk, coordinator of the Cooking School and President of the Trieste Association of Cooks. There will be no lack of attention on gourmet food and wine with the confirmation of the collaboration of the Commanderie des Cordons Bleus de France: "For the second consecutive year we will organize, at Olio Capitale, a training forum dedicated to gourmet cooking and extra virgin olive oil, " states Giorgio Sedmak, president of the Cordons Bleu delegation of Trieste.
