Biofach and Vivaness Congress 2015: food for thought – organic food for the mind

When the exhibition duo of Biofach and Vivaness bring together about 2,200 exhibitors, 200 of which will be at the International Trade Fair for Natural Personal Care, and approximately 42,000 trade visitors from 11 to 14 February 2015, NürnbergMesse will also be hosting the world's largest congress for the organic industry.This is a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge and information, and with around 100 lectures and discussions reaches more than 6, 500 participants. Themes that relate to and play a role in shaping the future of the global market and the organic movement will be discussed, as well as politics. Congress events do not need to be registered for separately and are free of charge for anyone attending Biofach and/or Vivaness. The focus of the congress this year is "Organic 3.0 – good basic conditions for more organic food", and it is made up of seven forums, two of which are making their debut in 2015: the Science Forum and the Politics Forum.

Thanks to the new online event planner, planning a visit to the trade fairs and the congress will be even easier and more convenient in 2015. The programme with details of the speakers and highlights can be viewed under Highlights & Congress on the Biofach and Vivaness websites. In seven forums, the Exhibitors Forum, the BIOFACH Forum, the Fachhandels Forum, the Sustainability Forum, the Politics Forum, the Science Forum and also the VIVANESS Forum, the congress' expected 6, 500 participants will be learning more about the latest developments and current themes in the organic industry over the four exhibition days from 11 to 14 February 2015. There is no other place on the planet where more expertise and knowledge are shared in a manner that is so concentrated and yet diverse at the same time.

The highlights of the first day (11.02.2015) include the "EU policy day" and the lecture by Frankfurt sociologist Doris Gadermann about the BIOFACH study on the trend category FREE FROM entitled "Please without… Free From – perspectives for trade". Based on the growth potential of the new trend category Free From, BIOFACH had the opportunities and barriers to trade in German-speaking Europe examined in a qualitative psychological baseline study. This focused on the main categories in the Free From segment, namely gluten-free products, lactose-free products and egg-free products.

The second day of the exhibitions and congress (12.02.2015) also promises inspiration. Those attending the BIOFACH Congress in 2015 can look forward to a presentation called "The new organic – Organic 3.0 perspectives" by Berlin trend researcher Lola Güldenberg. She analyses social developments and technologies of the future, but also shapes, colours and materials. Anything that seems to make the future touchable. After the presentation on the Organic 3.0 Trend and Potential Study in 2014, Ms Güldenberg will be asking which direction the organic industry is taking and whether it requires a new strategy or repositioning. Other highlights on the Thursday of the exhibitions include "Bio 3.0 – the way to more organic food in Germany, Europe and across the world" with representatives from Bioland, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), Bio Suisse, Naturland and Bio Austria, and a discussion in English entitled "TTIP – an opportunity or a threat to organic business?" with representatives from UNCTAD and the European Parliament among others. This event will be guided by economic journalist Dr Ursula Weidenfeld. In his lecture entitled "Revamping the consumer society and improving the world – ethics in business and consumption" in the Fachhandels Forum, social ethicist Prof. Clemens Sedmak will be asking the question "We are the goods; can we or do we have to grow because of this?" in reference to the society of tomorrow and the values in the organic trade.

On the Friday (13.02.2015), physicist and economic engineer Andreas Siemoneit and others will be focusing on "Tension between green economy and zero growth" and the question "Who pays for cheap food?" The true cost of food production will be discussed here.

Highlight speakers: from Güldenberg to Sedmak

The BIOFACH and VIVANESS Congress is dependent on the people who inform and inspire the attendees with their contributions every year. These include prominent players in the organic and cosmetics industries, pioneers and also newcomers. Mildred Steidle of Organic Services, Congress Management said: "Once again the industry is showing that it sees BIOFACH and VIVANESS and their congress as a discussion and knowledge platform. The topics aren't just touched on, but are really examined in depth over a substantial period of time. Organic 3.0 is very good example of this."

The highlight speakers: Doris Gadermann, a sociologist specialising in social psychology and a systemic coach, creative analytic 3000, Lola Güldenberg, a trend researcher, Martin Häusling, a member of the EU Parliaments, Prof. Carlo Leifert, a research development professor for ecological agriculture at Newcastle University, Alexander Müller, the secretary general ad interim at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), Prof. Clemens Sedmak, a professor of moral and social Theology at King's College London, Andreas Siemoneit, a physicist and economic engineer at the German Association for Ecological Economics (VÖÖ).

VIVANESS Forum: naturally beautiful knowledge for the industry

With its seven events, the VIVANESS Forum is the congress for the International Trade Fair for Natural Personal Care. It acts as a platform for the exchange of information regarding current developments and themes of the future. How is the natural cosmetics industry positioning itself in view of dynamic market development? How can the industry develop further? Which themes concern market players?

Starting on the first day of the exhibitions (11.02.2015), the VIVANESS Forum begins with a highlight and a lecture in English called "Vegan cosmetics: What's next after the hype?" This lecture will relate to the VIVANESS trend category Vegan and be given by Beate Vogel of naturkosmetik verlag e. dambacher and Dr Nicolas Scharioth of the market research company pollion.

On 12.02.2015 the focus will be on the international markets with the three events "Natural cosmetics: data – Facts – Markets", which will be delivered by Elfriede Dambacher of naturkosmetik konzepte among others, "Italy – the market really is changing!" and "Vive la difference – special features, current topics and perspectives from France's natural cosmetics market" by Moritz Aebersold of Contura Consulting among others. These three lectures will be interpreted simultaneously in English, Italian and French.

On the Friday, 13.02.2015, the international beauty industry will be brought up to date on the certification of natural cosmetics in the VIVANESS Forum with an event entitled "What now for certification?"

The VIVANESS congress will be supplemented by the meet + talk discussions in hall 7A, where visitors will be invited to take part in an open forum in the midst of the trade fair activity. meet + talk offers the public the opportunity to meet experts and pioneers of the natural cosmetics industry and find out about current trends. Elfriede Dambacher and Beate Vogel from naturkosmetik verlag will also be having discussions with prominent guests, shedding light on natural cosmetics topics and sharing current facts and figures from the natural cosmetics market in 13 events.
