NürnbergMesse at the Asia-Pacific Conference 2014 in Vietnam

It's mainly the international exhibitors and visitors who make a trade fair into a world-leading event. Attracting and supporting participants from all over the world is the task of the NürnbergMesse Group's over 50 worldwide representatives. Together with the five subsidiaries in Brazil, China, Italy, India and the USA, they now cover over 100 countries throughout the world for the Franconian exhibition company. Like the Delegate of German Industry and Commerce(AHK) in Vietnam, which is coordinating the networking for NürnbergMesse as part of the 14th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APC) in Ho Chi Minh City. "Our representatives abroad are key partners, some of whom have cooperated closely with us for many years. They are an important interface with foreign visitors and exhibitors in order to achieve a large international involvement at events in Nürnberg, " say Dr. Roland Fleck and Peter Ottmann, CEOs of the NürnbergMesse Group. Depending on the country, a visit to an international exhibition has its challenges.

NürnbergMesse is present with 50 representatives in over 100 countries of the world

For many visitors and exhibitors, a large international involvement is a decisive reason for taking part in a trade fair. This is the only way worldwide contacts can be made at a central location. Every second exhibitor at an international trade fair in Nürnberg meanwhile comes from abroad. The international share of trade visitors is over 20 per cent. The local companies also profit from a high degree of international involvement. A large part of the international character of an exhibition is due not least to the representatives of NürnbergMesse. They establish contact between the exhibitions in Nürnberg and the exhibitors and visitors in their country. Last year NürnbergMesse added representatives in countries like New Zealand, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait. "We have now topped 100 countries, which are covered by our some 50 representatives around the globe, " says Ottmann.

The Asia-Pacific Conference is an excellent example of how important it is to maintain an international network. More than 700 participants at the conference advocate strengthening business relationships between Germany and Asia. AHK Executive Director Marko Walde, who represents NürnbergMesse in Vietnam, aptly comments: "The major disseminators from Asia are present at the Asia-Pacific Conference. This in particular is a great opportunity for us to make the broad event portfolio of NürnbergMesse more widely known. When in the end more Asian exhibitors and visitors come to Nürnberg, we have done everything right!"

Nadja Lichte, who has represented NürnbergMesse in the Czech Republic since 2008, echoes this view: "We see ourselves as a tool for NürnbergMesse. As not every country has exhibitions where visitors can see international products presented in concentrated form, the international trade fairs in Nürnberg are particularly interesting for foreign visitors." Like many other international representatives who are not so far away from Nürnberg, they organize, for example, day trips to popular events like FachPack. The representatives not only provide key information for visitors, but also important tips for exhibitors: Where must I apply for an exhibition, what must I approximately plan as a budget and how do I book an exhibition stand?

Worldwide network of contacts
NürnbergMesse has maintained contact with partners abroad since the 1980s. The first international representatives included Belgium/Luxembourg, Switzerland/Liechtenstein, Denmark, Finland and Sweden. "We have continuously expanded our network in the last three decades, " reports Dr. Roland Fleck. "In some cases we also cooperate with other German exhibition companies abroad and maintain a joint representative, such as NürnbergMesse and Deutsche Messe in Sweden."

What is rather unusual within Germany has a decisive advantage abroad: "A joint representative strengthens the importance of German exhibitions abroad, " emphasizes Peter Ottmann.

Support on the ground
Representatives quite often act as the contact for several countries, like Skander Negasi, who is responsible for the region of East Africa. This covers the countries of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Ruanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. "Especially BIOFACH in Nürnberg is interesting for many companies from the region, " reports Negasi. Typical challenges for the around 25 exhibitors who regularly come to Germany for BIOFACH are visas and logistics. "Many exhibitors only have a small budget available. Here we support them by finding the cheapest possible solutions so that the long journey is worthwhile. Special offers are created if a demand exists. At BIOFACH, for example, there have often been so many interested exhibitors that a separate pavilion was organized for East Africa, in which exhibitors with a low budget could take part."

Some representatives are also exhibition organizers themselves and therefore excellently informed about the needs of their customers. "Many exhibitors still have little experience of international exhibitions and are grateful for details on procedures and processes at large events or import restrictions, so that their exhibiting is a success, " says Antonio Barrera, who with Barrera y Nogueira Exposiciones is an organizer himself and at the same time the contact in Mexico for NürnbergMesse events. "A classic problem is that many of our companies do not plan far enough in advance. Then they need last-minute support, for hotel bookings etc." So the representatives deal specifically with the needs of the customers in their region and create a vital network for NürnbergMesse to ensure the participation of a variety of different nations at the exhibitions at home in Nürnberg, but also at events all over the world. Not only the exhibition company profits from this global variety, but everyone who takes part in the international events – whether in Ho Chi Minh City at the 14th Asia-Pacific Conference or at one of the many events of NürnbergMesse all over the world.
