Voss+Fischer wins contract for the German pavilion’s cultural programme at the Expo Milan 2015

The Frankfurt agency Voss+Fischer has been awarded the contract for the cultural programme of the German pavilion. Under the motto "Fields of Cultures, Growing Ideas. Germany. Exceptional. Surprising, " the cultural programme will represent Germany at the Expo Milan 2015. This will also further examine the Expo's main motto "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". Artists, projects and initiatives from all over Germany will be involved in the diverse programme which will range from music and film to gaming topics.

"In its concept Voss+Fischer has fittingly succeeded in further developing the motto of the German pavilion "Fields of Ideas" and also closely incorporating the central "Be(e) Active" idea with this. Hereby the focus is on the promotion of new talent with the main goal of presenting a young, innovative and creative Germany, " says Dietmar Schmitz, Commissioner General of the German pavilion.

"The Expo Milan 2015 and the German pavilion examine important future issues – challenges for which the solution requires creativity. We want to present these in different ways in our cultural programme and, at the same time, convey a new, surprising and fun image of Germany. Hereby the focus of our work lies in Germany's exciting, young creative and cultural scene, " says Claus Fischer, Managing Director of Voss+Fischer.

The Frankfurt agency applied for the comprehensive project together with two experienced music and culture managers in the team – Wolfgang Weyand and Mike P. Heisel are responsible for the programme. Weyand has been working as a consultant for many years and is also the president of the Cluster of the Creative Industry in Hesse (CLUK) and the chairman of the Association of Interests of Music Managers and Consultants (IMUC). Mike P. Heisel has been working in the music industry for many years as a music and media manager and also represents the interests of music producers in Germany (mpag).

"The "Fields of Culture" concept is divided into seven areas: "Fields of Literature", "Fields of Theatre", "Fields of Film", "Fields of Art", "Fields of Dance", "Fields of Music" and "Fields of Games". The close cooperation with academies, cultural institutions and initiatives is the main pillar of the orientation to young new talent. The incorporation of the initiatives and projects also conveys the message which is central in the exhibition of the German pavilion: "Be(e) Active", " says Wolfgang Weyand. Mike P. Heisel adds, "This cultural programme offers individuals from Germany a platform to present themselves and their projects in the German pavilion and, in doing so, to give impulses for an active and creative examination of the "Fields of Ideas" topics."

Under the programme management of Mike P. Heisel and Wolfgang Weyand, Voss+Fischer will present a cultural programme on the multi-functional stage and the area around the German pavilion as well as for the queue in front of the exhibition. A further special feature of the concept is the daily evening transformation of the deck – during the day, visitors can enjoy this space for relaxation and picnics and, in the evenings, it will offer "German sunset feeling" with music from a DJ. In addition, there will be a further regular evening highlight – on Fridays and Saturdays, the German pavilion will offer its visitors a relaxing end to the day on the Expo site with film presentations and concerts.

144 countries and three international organisations from all over the world are currently taking part in the Expo 2015 in Milan from 1 May to 31 October 2015 where they will present their concepts on the motto "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".

Background information on the German Pavilion at the 2015 World Exhibition in Milan
Large-scale, universal world exhibitions are held every five years in rotation with smaller expos. The upcoming World Expo in Milan follows Shanghai (2010), Aichi (2005) and Hanover (2000). Expo 2015 showcases the theme "Feeding the planet, energy for life". It dispenses with prestigious monumental buildings, presenting itself rather as a sustainable Agrofood Park. The German Pavilion has the motto "Fields of Ideas".

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, Messe Frankfurt has been entrusted with the organisation and running of the German Pavilion at EXPO 2015 in Milan. The design, planning and realisation of the German Pavilion have been taken on by the ARGE, a consortium made up of Milla & Partner (Stuttgart), Schmidhuber (Munich) and Nüssli Deutschland (Roth near Nuremberg). Milla & Partner is responsible for the content concept as well as the design of the exhibition and media. Schmidhuber is responsible for the pavilion's spatial concept, its architecture and general planning and Nüssli for project management and construction. The Expo site is being built close to the existing Milan exhibition centre.
The world exhibition will remain open for six months – from 1 May to 31 October 2015.
