Lecture area for the retail trade at Tendence 2014¶

What turns a lecture area into a magnet for the whole business? The answer: subjects that are vital to trade and industry, and speakers who not only discuss these subjects in an interesting way but also propose practical tips and ideas for implementing them on an everyday basis. Coupling this with an international trade-fair setting, calling it 'Carat! on stage' and locating it in the jewellery hall of this year's Tendence (Hall 9.3) makes it irresistible. There, renowned speakers will offer advice and suggestions with respect to jewellery trends, the individual presentation of pieces of jewellery, successful customer-retention programmes and interior shop design. "'Carat! on stage' has come to hold an established position at Tendence for buyers and the industry. Thanks to its sharp focus on the retail trade, it generates unrivalled value added for the entire jewellery business and provides targeted, relevant information and ideas", says Yvonne Engelmann, Director for the Giving section of Tendence.

The lecture on 'The importance of fairly traded gold' by Petra Schwab, for example, spotlights design and ecology. In addition to insights into fair trade, the Hamburg-based trade journalist will also look at ecologically correct methods of extracting the precious metal (Saturday, 30 August, 12.15 hrs and Sunday, 31 August, 13.00 hrs).

In his lecture entitled 'ShopFit for Future', well-known Bavarian Television presenter, interior architect, interior designer and 'Raumkunst' CEO Stefan Suchanek, will use 'ten commandments' to show how the successful design of the shop interior can have a big impact on business success (Saturday, 30 August, and Tuesday, 2 September, 13.00 hrs, Sunday, 31 August, and Monday, 1 September, 12.15 hrs).

'How the bricks-and-mortar trade can hold its own against haggling customers and internet comparisons' is the subject of the lecture by Burkhard Treude. With more than 25 years' experience in the retail trade, the management consultant, author and sales psychologist will explain how to prevent consumers using the advisory services of the bricks-and-mortar trade before placing their orders on the internet. Treude will also explain how hagglers can be beaten with their own arguments and how sales personnel can operate proactively and not just react (Saturday, 30 August, 11.30 hrs, and Sunday, 31 August, 13.45 hrs).

In her lecture on 'Jewellery trends 2014 / 15 and ideas for individual presentations', trend scout and consultant Gabriela Kaiser will show which items of jewellery are likely to be particularly popular among consumers in the coming season (Saturday, 30 August, 13.45 hrs and Sunday, 31 August, 11.30 hrs).

Insider tips for making extraordinary displays with selected pieces of jewellery will be given by the 2012 State Champion of the Hessian Florists in a live presentation entitled 'Jewellery and fresh flowers' (Monday, 1 September, 11.30 hrs, and Tuesday, 2 September, 13.45 hrs).

More turnover at the point-of-sale is the theme of Bert Martin Ohnemüller's introduction to Neuromerchandising . In his lecture on being 'Loved by the customer', the author and founder will discuss what retailers can learn from brain research and evolution biology (Monday, 1 September, 13.00 hrs, and Tuesday, 2 September, 11.30 hrs).

In her lecture on 'Pearls – always real', mineralogist and gemology lecturer, Dr Ursula Wehrmeister, will draw attention to aspects that jewellers and buyers should look out for when purchasing pearls (Monday, 1 September, 13.45 hrs, and Tuesday, 2 September, 12.15 hrs).

Additional highlights for the jewellery business in Hall 9.3:
21 young, creative designers will show how they see tomorrow's jewellery at the 'Talents Carat' area.
Trend and design oriented time-pieces for the wrist are to be found at 'Time Square'. There, buyers can choose from an extensive range of fashionable and classic wristwatches.
The European Academy for Jewellers, Goldsmiths and Silver Smiths, FBZ Ahlen, will also present award-winning jewellery design from the 'Design and Technology' competition in Hall 9.3. The awards ceremony will be held in the 'Carat! on stage!' area of Hall 9.3 at 14.30 hrs on Sunday, 31 August.
Buyers can discover what is currently trendy in the worlds of jewellery, watches and fashion accessories when they use the Via Mobile to move between the individual exhibition halls. There, designer Petra Strickstrock presents 'Diva's Jewel Box – Jewellery, Watches and Personal Accessories'.

Tendence, the international consumer-goods event
Tendence (30 August to 2 September 2014) is the one of Europe's most important order platforms for consumer goods in the second half of the year. The extensive range of products is relevant for all channels of distribution: for the retail trade, Tendence is the decisive order platform for the busy Christmas and winter business while bulk buyers can obtain an initial overview of new products for the coming spring and summer season, 2015. As in the past, the Ecostyle and Webchance fairs will be held concurrently with Tendence 2014.
