OTWorld 2014: professionals exchange ideas and experiences in the "Global Networking Area"

As the sectors number one platform, OTWorld (13 to 16 May 2014, Leipzig, Germany) is the ideal place for future-oriented exchanges of information between orthopaedic technicians, orthopaedic shoemakers, engineers, medical practitioners and therapists from all over the world. And it is specifically this interdisciplinary and international exchange of knowledge that is one of the trademarks of OTWorld. That is why the German Federation of Orthopaedic Technicians Guilds (Bundesinnungsverband für Orthopädie.Technik – BIV-OT) is hosting the platform for the sectors professional associations and educational institutions – the "Global Networking Area".

The main focus of the "Global Networking Area", on the joint stand for the sectors international professional associations, will not be only on services and products, but above all on personal contacts. Numerous international associations, organisations and scientific institutions will be taking up the invitation of their hosts, the BIV-OT Federation, and attending the discussion sessions. "The German Federation of Orthopaedic Technicians Guilds is delighted to be able to host the most important meeting of the sectors professional associations worldwide once again in 2014. Even though the issues surrounding treatment and care are heavily influenced by individual national health services, we are united by one question that transcends all borders: How can we improve the quality of treatment for our patients? More than ever before, the steps we need to take today require global and interdisciplinary networking and exchange of ideas, " explains Klaus-Jürgen Lotz, President of the BIV-OT federation.

Information and communications platform

The idea behind the "Global Networking Area" is to foster discussions that will bring about qualitative improvements in the treatment of patients across the whole sector. With their attractively designed joint stand in Hall 3 (Stand G39), the BIV-OT Federation is offering international professional associations, organisations and scientific institutions the opportunity to present themselves and their activities free of charge, and to provide information about their own events and professional development work. Trade visitors from all over the world are able to meet up here, make new contacts, network with others and exchange ideas and experiences.

Partners of OTWorld

Through their active participation, the guests of the "Global Networking Area" automatically become major partners of OTWorld. By bringing what they are and what they do to the attention of visitors and colleagues, they will be extending their networks well beyond the confines of the event itself. Many associations use the leading world fair, OTWorld, to maintain their contacts throughout the sector, thus making the event an international meeting point.

So far, 30 associations from 15 countries have already signed up for the "Global Networking Area". There will be a modest welcome reception for delegations from outside Germany, to signal the beginning of the international interchange of knowledge. Amongst those taking part in the "Global Networking Area" are the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics, ABOTEC from Brazil, the All- Russian Prosthetists & Orthopaedists Guild, the German organisation "Human Study e.V.", as well as ISPO Member Societies from, for example, South Africa, Mexico and Turkey.
