Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main from 12 to 15 March 2014 is the most important meeting place for the musical-instrument sector. Manufacturers and trade visitors take advantage of this vital marketing and innovation platform to discover the latest trends in the fields of music business and live entertainment. For music lovers, the two public days offer an unrivalled opportunity not only to see and test musical instruments but also to hear innumerable stars and starlets perform live on the various stages and exhibition stands. With 30,000 products on show, Musikmesse is the world's biggest fair of its kind and offers a comprehensive overview of all products and services revolving around musical instruments, music electronics, sheet music and accessories.

Thus, Musikmesse covers the entire music value chain from musical instruments and sheet music to rights management, labels and live-event promoters. The instruments to be seen embrace all genres – from classical instruments, via electric guitars and basses, percussion and keyboards to electronic equipment, as well as virtual teaching programmes and sheet music.

It addition to its function as the business platform for the sector, Musikmesse is not only an event that communicates the pleasure to be derived from active music making. It also focuses on the music business and promotes young musicians. In a wide variety of concerts, autograph sessions, workshops and product demonstrations, the emphasis is on the people that bring musical instruments to life. With a variety of initiatives, such as Music4Kids, SchoolJam and the Musikbiz Lounge & Congress, Musikmesse provides active support for musical education and young musicians.

Musikmesse opens on two days to members of the public
Musikmesse is unique with its blend of musical instruments of all kinds on the exhibition stands and demonstrations by professional musicians. And, on the Friday afternoon (14.00 to 18.00 hrs) and all day Saturday, music lovers have the chance to visit the fair, too. To round off the first public day, a party to celebrate the 10th birthday of BigCityBeats will be held in the 'Festhalle' of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre. On the Saturday, music aficionados have a further opportunity to see, hear and test musical instruments and see stars live on stage or at autograph sessions.

Live events on the stages and exhibition stands
Concerts and workshops give Musikmesse visitors the opportunity to see products in action. There are no limits on style so there is certain to be something for all musical tastes, e.g., rock, pop, jazz, folk, heavy metal, electronic, tango, 'schlager' and musette. For this purpose, there are two stages at the fair. The Agora Stage is the main stage and to be found in a marquee between Halls 3, 4 and 5. There, rock and pop concerts take place at half-hourly intervals on two stages. As the name implies, the Acoustic Stage in Hall 3 is the primary venue for acoustic instruments and a setting for concerts on all four days of the fair. At the Artists of Accordion Stage in Hall 3.1, Room 'Kontrast', accordion players demonstrate the various facets of this versatile instrument. The PRG LEA Stage in the 'Festhalle' is the setting for the opening ceremony of Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound on Tuesday, 11 March. On the Saturday, it is the venue for the SchoolJam school-band competition (from 14.45 hrs), during which eight bands will compete for the title of 'Germany's Best School Band'. Prior to this, at 13.00 hrs, the www.drums.de Music Award, which spotlights the quality and artistic creativity of artists from the music sector, will be presented on the PRG LEA Stage. This year, visitors will have the chance to see 'Voice of Germany' winner Andreas Kümmert live on stage.

Regardless of whether they will be playing or talking, many top celebrities from the world of music have already said they will be coming to Frankfurt. For example, popular pop artist Adel Tawil will pass on his knowledge to young school bands and record a song in the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. Other stars at the Musikmesse will include Bobby Kimball (TOTO), Jeff Beck, The BossHoss, Jeff Waters, Rudolf Schenker, Edguy, Ryan Roxie, Mille Petrozza, Markus Deml, Dr. Motte, the BigBand of the German Armed Forces, Jon Gomm, Peter Bursch, Meshuggah, Wolf Hoffmann, InFlames, Michael Sagmeister, Diane Ponzio, Carl Carlton, Matthias Matzke, Mario Gatto and many more.

The Music4kids special area and the SchoolJam school-band competition are designed to promote music making among young people. During the week of the fair, the Music4Kids participatory exhibition attracts around 10, 000 children to Hall 5.0 where they are introduced to musical instruments and sound objects in a playful way. SchoolJam is aimed at more advanced musicians who have the chance to appear with their school band on the big Festhalle stage and compete for the title of 'Germany's best school band' from 14.45 hrs on the big stage in the 'Festhalle'. The European School Music Award is given for innovative and creative school-music projects and will also be presented on the Saturday (14.00 hrs, 15 March). Also on Saturday, the Musikbiz Lounge and Congress area, which focuses on subjects of topical interest to the recording industry and the live-entertainment sector during the fair, will look at careers in the music business in panel discussions and talks.
