South-East European Exhibition and Forum on Renewable Energy and Waste Management will enhance the role of bioenergy

Well-developed agriculture, forestry, organic waste availability, as well as feed-in tariffs determinate the great potential of bioenergy sector in South-East Europe. The countries in the Region are building up plants for biofuels as they are good alternatives to conventional fuels in the context of rising fuel prices, their running low and global environmental targets. In Bulgaria there are real opportunities to expand biofuels production having in mind the crops resource: the country annually produces over 2 million tones.

The Region has favorable prospects for pellets. For example, in the recent 10 years, the wood briquettes production in Bulgaria has been significantly activated. The Rural Development Program (Measure 123) funds new investments in the industry. The pellets are still a new kind of fuel at the Bulgarian market, which is mainly due to the high investment costs and a lower purchasing power of the consumers in the country, as compared to that one in the other Member States. There is a shortage of quality pellets supply and a growth of users of pellets for heating in residential buildings and hotels. The most promising technologies for Bulgaria, also applicable in some other countries, for waste processing and transformation into chips, are the following ones: production of chips from wood waste by mobile chipper and supply of chips by specialized trailers and automobiles to the consumers; supply of packaged forest wood waste in packets (bales), from the forest to the consumers, followed by a further production of chips.

Taking into consideration the market trends and legislative framework, bioenergy will be a highlight of the 2014 edition of the 10th South-East European Exhibition and Forum on Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency which will be held from 5th to 7th March in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event will raise the awareness of business and state administration on bioeconomy.

The Organizer Via Expo is expecting again a strong international presence. For the 5th consecutive year advanced Austrian experience will be demonstrated at the Austrian Pavilion.
Leading companies will put on display their latest products: biogas and biomass plants; biomass heating boilers; pellet presses; pellet installations; thermal waste treatment and energy recovery systems; briquette making equipment; bio filters, energy saving solutions, etc.
Costruzioni Nazzareno will participate at the Exhibition for the 2nd time. It has been specializing in the construction of complete wood pellet production systems and is by now well known throughout Europe. The pellet production plant consists of a group of machines joined together for the production cycle. It differs in every plant, since the characteristics of the product to be processed (type of wood, particle size, moisture content, initial state, etc.) are always different.

The speakers lineup will include experts from international branch associations which will engage participants in depth discussions on legislation, technical novelties and forthcoming challenges.
A special session will be devoted to the biofuel production, bioenergy and composting.

ACR+ and ENEP will organize an European Conference Day 'Best Practices in Waste/Resource Management among the EU 28', focused on the latest EU-legislation, knowledge exchange between EU-Member States in waste management and recycling.
