IFA 2013: Industry and Trade rely on IFA to provide global impetus for the market

In 2013 IFA again displays impressive growth: The world's most significant trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances now occupies 145.000 m˛, a two per cent increase in display space compared with last year's highly successful event. One consequence of this is that, for the fourth time in succession, all available space at IFA has been booked. Moreover, in addition to the halls, space is also being occupied on the open-air grounds, in temporary halls and in the connecting passageways between the halls, in order to accommodate the 1.493 exhibitors (nearly +4%). This increase in the display area is accounted for by exhibitors who have previously attended this event as well as newcomers.

At the last count orders were valued at more than 3.8 billion euros, making IFA the pre-eminent event for the trade and the industry in the run-up to Christmas, which is the most important season of the year for the trade. There is no trade show anywhere in the world that provides such an ideal meeting place for so many international dealers, buyers, media and industry representatives, and the timing is perfect too. IFA gives significant pointers for the future as well as attracting an outstanding response in the media, all of which helps to give a valuable impetus to the markets. On a global scale it is the number one event in all the vital parameters for the trade, industry and the media.

Diversified market development
IFA serves the sectors of consumer electronics and electrical home appliances, which have experienced differentiation in their recent market development. The first half of the year revealed some growth difficulties in the consumer electronics sector, but market researchers expect IFA to mark a turning point, with positive development for 2013 as a whole, both on a worldwide scale and in Europe and Germany. For the electrical home appliance market the first half of the year produced positive results and, compared with the previous year, an increase in sales is expected over the full twelve-month period.

Stations and networks from all over the world at the IFA Global Broadcast Center
There is exceptional media interest in IFA 2013. This has been borne out by the numerous applications received from the media from all over the world to be represented at the Global Broadcast Center, which can be found in the Media Center in Hall 6.3. International cooperation is taking place here with TV stations and networks, with the news agencies AP and Reuters, and with programme providers from the public broadcasting networks EBU, Switzerland, and ENEX in Luxembourg.

Growth in new areas
This year sees renewed interest in the latest areas to be included in IFA, IFA iZone for everything connected with smartphones and tablet PCs, and IFA eLibrary, which is devoted to the ebooks market and associated aspects. This increased demand has resulted in the allocation of a larger display area.

IFA International Keynotes
The IFA International Keynotes have become a global meeting place for senior executives and CEOs. Never before has this series featured so many papers. The evident demand for this conference format for leading decision-makers is confirmation yet again of IFA's standing as the world's leading trade fair for this sector.

International Media Conference
Media policy and network policy issues have become firmly established topics at IFA. The International Media Conference Berlin, medienwoche@IFA and medienpolitik@IFA target visitors to IFA and delegates at the International Media Conference alike and span a bridge between the consumer electronics industry, the media industry and media politics.

Industry forum SmartHome@IFA
Does the concept of the smart home have the potential to spark a minor economic miracle or will the idea of 'networked worlds' remain a pipe dream of our times? That is the question that representatives of commerce, the skilled trades, industry, politics and the media will be debating at the industry forum SmartHome@IFA in the IFA Red Lounge on 8 September at 11 a.m.

IFA TecWatch
For technically minded visitors to IFA, journalists, experts and decision-makers from the industry and the trade, Hall 11.1 is a must. This is where IFA TecWatch will be showcasing the technologies for the markets of tomorrow, offering an in-depth look at the future, providing many answers and looking at fascinating ideas for business in the future.
Among the main attractions are a combined international display exhibiting Ultra HD, a joint stand of the trade associations‚ ’the smart networked home+living‘, as well as the TecWatch Forum featuring papers and panel discussions.

TedX Berlin now a two-day event
On 6 and 7 September, over a period of two days and for the first time, creative and visionary minds will be debating the future of urban life and ’City 2.0’. More than 20 international speakers have registered to take part in this year’s TEDx Berlin, which in 2013 will be taking place again at IFA.
