Japan set to be Ambiente Partner Country in 2014

Japan is set to be next year's partner country of the leading international trade fair Ambiente. After Denmark and France, it is the first non-European country to be chosen as the partner country for the consumer goods show in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. "We as Messe Frankfurt have strong ties with Japan. It is one of the most important and successful export nations and a powerful economy with an outstanding expertise in design as well as a long tradition in craftsmanship. We are delighted to welcome Japan as the Ambiente Partner Country in 2014", Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, said at the Ambiente press conference within the framework of Interior Lifestyle Tokyo show at Tokyo Big Sight. The Ambiente 'Partner Country Globe' had been presented to Consul General Hideyuki Sakamoto of Consulate-General of Japan in Frankfurt, at a handover ceremony during Ambiente 2013 in February in Frankfurt.

"To be chosen as the first Ambiente Partner Country from Asia is an appreciation of the quality and innovation which Japanese exhibitors have contributed to the wide range of goods at Ambiente in the past. We are very happy that Ambiente 2014 will spotlight Japan's innovative consumer goods industry as well as Japan's culture and beauty. I greatly appreciate that the outstanding designer Yukio Hashimoto has accepted our request to design the special presentation. His work in space design is a fusion of Japanese traditional craftsmanship and modern atmosphere and will draw attention from trade professionals and international media, " explains Yasushi Kajiwara, Managing Director of Mesago Messe Frankfurt Corporation in Tokyo. Preparations for a multi-faceted presentation are already in full swing.

The internationally renowned Yukio Hashimoto of Hashimoto Yukio Design Studio Inc. and Professor at Tokyo Polytechnic University has agreed to design the Partner Country Japan presentation. Furthermore, he will be the Ambassador of the Partner Country Japan programme. "I am proud and honoured to represent Japan, its culture and its passion in design and craftsmanship at the world's leading consumer goods show. Japan often bares an image to have a rather static culture such as 'wabi', 'sabi' and 'ZEN', but I would like to express the active and entertaining aspect.", says Hashimoto. Born in the Prefecture Aichi in 1962, Hashimoto graduated from Aichi University of the Arts in 1986 and established "hashimoto yukio design studio inc." in 1997. Since then, he has won an impressive number of awards in various disciplines.

The Ambiente Partner Country concept is an essential part of Ambiente's comprehensive exhibitors' and visitors' programme and includes a wide-ranging calendar of events such as the Partner Country special presentation, the dedicated Partner Country day, events by exhibitors, and other high-profile activities. During the recent two editions of Ambiente, VIPs and celebrities like the Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Nille Juul Sřrensen, CEO of the Danish Design Centre the actress and designer Catherine Deneuve, Dr Philip Rösler, Federal Minister of Economics and Technology in Germany, and Sylvia Pinel, French Minister for Crafts, Trade and Tourism, paid visits to the presentations of Denmark and France at Ambiente.
