| Shanghai Intelligent Building Technology (SIBT 2013) launches at new venue The Shanghai Intelligent Building Technology fair will continue its goal of providing a top regional platform for China's rapidly growing intelligent building market, as it holds its 7th edition from 25 – 27 September 2013. Jointly organised by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co Ltd, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade – Shanghai Pudong Sub-Council and Shanghai Hongshan Exhibition Service Co Ltd, the fair is expected to play host to over 150 exhibitors showcasing a range of technologies and solutions for building automation, smart home development, generic cabling as well as security and access control. The year 2013 signals several key developments for the show, one of the biggest being a change in venue. For its 7th edition, the fair will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, a state-of-the-art exhibition venue located in Shanghai's Pudong district. Commenting on this new development, Mr Richard Li, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt in China said: "One of the biggest reasons for moving the fair to this new venue was space. The show is quickly growing in scale. And we were eager to offer a venue that can accommodate more exhibitors and allow them to build even bigger booths. This year the exhibition space will be increased to approximately 10,000 sqm, a 67% increase from last year. In addition, we currently hold ISH Shanghai & CIHE – Shanghai International Trade Fair for Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning at the same venue. For 2013, these two shows will be held concurrently, allowing attendees to explore synergies between the two integral components to building technology. I believe these new developments will greatly aid suppliers and professional buyers by maximising their time at the show." The latest edition of the fair will be focused on the three core themes currently in high demand across East China, Building Energy Efficiency, Intelligent Cities and Smart Homes. And professionals in property development such as system integrators, architects, engineering designers and contractors remain as the fair's target buyers. For the 2013 show, in order to assist buyers in meeting relevant exhibitors, thematic zones have been confirmed for the specialties of Generic Cabling, Energy Management, Efficiency and Building Automation. In addition, a variety of forums and seminars will be held concurrently to enrich the event for both visitors and exhibitors. Co-organising with prominent industry associations including KNX Association, China Smart Home Industry Alliance, the value-added events will offer insight to the latest developments and trends in the industry. With the country's rapid economic growth and ambitious urbanisation goals, property owners are making increasing calls for technologies and solutions that provide better comfort, convenience, energy efficiency and safety in buildings. Coincidently, these demands have led developers to incorporate advanced automation systems, Internet-of-Things and cloud computing technology into their projects, three of the most pivotal components to the development of intelligent buildings, and ultimately smart cities. Smart-city development is currently one of the Chinese government's top public works goals. According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development from China, 90 areas across the country, including 37 prefectural cities, 50 districts/counties and three towns have been selected as pilot projects for smart-city development. Numerous state-owned and private enterprises are investing in the initiative. China Development Bank, for example, has committed to lend USD 12.9 billion for various smart-city projects between 2013 and 2015. Being one of the country's most economically developed areas, East China was one of the first regions where intelligent buildings and smart cities developed. By the end of 2013, East China's intelligent building market is estimated to be worth USD 5.4 billion. Shanghai leads the region's intelligent building market, as the need for relevant technologies is highest in the city. This demand, and the numerous business opportunities it provides to domestic and overseas industry players, guides the Shanghai Intelligent Building Technology fair's mission of bringing together experts to share and obtain the latest information from the global building industry.
