FachPack 2013 gives answers for futurebuilders

FachPack in Nürnberg has always been different. It also has amazing answers to strange questions like "Ever packed love (knowledge, a world, success, a fright…)?" in 2013. As one of the most important European exhibitions for packaging, FachPack from 24–26 September offers some 1,500 exhibitors (2012: 1,466) the perfect setting for their products and services for packaging, technology, processing and logistics. Packaging specialists (2012: 36,986) from Germany and the neighbouring countries appreciate the popular mix of expertise, practical orientation and constructive working atmosphere.

Exactly the right answers for businessseekers
"FachPack is a real gathering of experts from Europe, " says Exhibition Director Heike Slotta, describing her exhibition's recipe for success. "Exhibitors and visitors meet here to discuss and develop tailor-made solutions for a wide variety of projects – the ideal opportunity to make valuable business contacts." A considerable 90 % of the exhibitors succeed in making precisely such new contacts, according to the results of a survey by an independent institute. 93 % reach their major target groups and 95 % praise the professional competence of the visitors. So no wonder that the number of those who successfully exhibit their packaging products and services in Nürnberg is growing all the time. What started in 1979 as a regional exhibition with just under 100 exhibitors has developed into an exhibition of European ranking. The efficient German packaging industry is strongly represented in Nürnberg – by 1, 100 companies at the last event. Another quarter of the exhibitors travel to Nürnberg mainly from the neighbouring countries – the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria and Italy.

Products on display: Around 670 FachPack exhibitors scored in 2012 with their recognized expertise in packaging materials, packaging supplies and packaging ancillaries of paper, paperboard, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal or wood. Approx. 550 firms showed innovative technology – packaging machinery, labelling and marking equipment, and peripheral packaging machinery and equipment. The packaging logistics segment was determined by approx. 350 companies with conveying, loading, storage and order-picking systems, software, coding systems and logistic services. The product spectrum of the approx. 200 specialists in packaging printing, processing and design ranged from individual to luxurious, from pre-press, packaging design and package and label printing to packaging supplies production. The difference in the figures makes it clear that a good fifth of the FachPack exhibitors show products and services in several segments of the packaging process chain.

Promising answers for visitorseekers
The expected 37,000 packaging specialists with money to invest appreciate the creative working atmosphere at FachPack. Information and cultivation of contacts are just as important here as answering specific technical inquiries. The good mood is catching and attracted more than 7,500 international visitors at the last event. They come mainly from the neighbouring countries of Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, France, Slovenia, Hungary and Great Britain.

The typical FachPack visitor works in industries like food/beverages, pharmaceuticals/cosmetics, chemicals, printing/paper/cardboard, packaging- and logistics-related services, plastics, automotive engineering and component supply. He spends an average 1.2 days at the exhibition and is mainly interested in packaging materials/packaging supplies (almost every second visitor) and packaging machinery (more than a third). About a quarter of the visitors are interested in packaging logistics, packaging printing and processing, and about a quarter in packaging ancillaries, a fifth in peripheral packaging machinery and equipment, 14 % in labelling and marking equipment and 10 % in services (multiple answers).

The conclusion of the visitors, of whom 85 % are involved in procurement decisions in their companies, is a great compliment for the exhibiting companies. Almost all visitors at FachPack 2012 were satisfied with the products on display (95 %) and the varied opportunities for information and contact on the exhibition stands (96 %).

This is, of course, to remain so at FachPack 2013. Many special shows offer extra added value to supplement the extensive range of products and services of the 1, 500 exhibitors. After its impressive premiere in 2012 with an interested audience of 2, 570 at 34 presentations and panel discussions covering the exhibition's whole product spectrum, the stylish PackBox Forum continues its success story. The players involved in the second round of the triad of inspiration – innovation – information are: bayern design, Bund Deutscher Verpackungsingenieure (bdvi – Association of German Packaging Engineers), Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut (dvi – German Packaging Institute), Flexodruck Fachverband (DFTA – Flexographic Printing Association), the magazines PackReport und Verpackungs-Rundschau (Packaging Review), Fraunhofer-Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik (Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics) and Verein zur Förderung innovativer Verfahren in der Logistik (VVL – Association for the Promotion of Innovative Logistic Processes).

Also planned are special presentations on Cardboard, Packaging Design, Deutscher Verpackungspreis (German Packaging Award), Innovative Logistic Solutions and Packaging in Medical Technology and Pharmacy. The Corrugated Cardboard Forum is open on the second day of FachPack. The Museum Café of the German Packaging Museum provides a look back to the good old times.
