belektro 2012 on the forward-looking themes of the electro industry

Innovative products in every display section and a supporting programme that examines the current challenges facing the electro industry: that is the focus of the sixteenth edition of belektro in Berlin from 17 to 19 October. 242 exhibitors from ten countries will be taking part in the three-day Trade Fair for Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Lighting.

The exhibitors in the display halls at Berlin ExpoCenter City, which this year have risen by 10 per cent, will be presenting their latest products and services, including numerous world firsts. Around one-third of the exhibitors have released early details of their innovations and product advances in the trade fair's Innovation Report.

Invitation to view the smart home

One of the highlights at this year's belektro is the E-Haus. This spectacular special display showcases the main themes of the fair and provides a hands-on experience, addressing issues such as energy management of the future, energy efficiency, ease of operation and safety.

Among the seven areas inside the smart home is a garage, complete with an electric car. Adjacent to this is a special display where visitors can gain an insight into electric transportation forms, those of the present and the future. Several exhibitors at belektro have electric vehicles on show, ones which these companies have already put into operation.

Supporting programme: focus on lighting

The specialist supporting programme focuses widely on education, advanced training and networking. Lighting is an important part of belektro. The focus at this year's LIGHTING DIALOGUE, a popular event among trade visitors, is on LEDs, OLEDs and energy efficiency. Once again, the Federal Environment Agency is acting as patron.

One of belektro's success stories is the coOLED competition for students, whose task was to design a mobile lighting solution with organic LEDs. Creative aspects and in particular mass marketability are among the design criteria. 119 entries from all over Germany were submitted this year. The winners will be honoured at the opening event of belektro 2012.

From smart energy to the Row of Workshops

Co-organised by belektro and VDE Verlag, the Smart Energy Forum is one of the new formats of the supporting programme. The focus is on highly topical issues such as smart grids, smart metering and the practical aspects of smart buildings.

The Photovoltaics Dialogue, the Electrical Practitioners' Forum and lectures on work safety are among the established fixtures of the supporting programme. This year some 1,000 trainees will again be paying a visit to the Row of Workshops and testing their practical skills on the special stands of those exhibitors taking part. Schoolchildren and trainees will receive direct information on innovative products and applications at 24 individual stops. Information for trainees also includes a work safety course and planning lighting systems. For those among them who do not yet have an apprenticeship there will be information on electrical engineering jobs and, providing they fulfil the necessary requirements, an agency directly offering traineeships.
