Entire international imaging sector to be represented at photokina 2012

The international trade, professional users, and end consumers continue to show very strong interest in photokina. The organizers of the world's largest trade fair for the photography and imaging industry expect around 180,000 visitors to come to the event from September 18-23 to find out about the latest image-related products, services, trends, and techniques. The entire industry will also be represented in Cologne. Everybody who is anybody in the international photography and imaging sector will be coming to photokina 2012. A total of 1,158 companies from 41 countries will be exhibiting in Cologne, with 63 percent of the suppliers coming from outside Germany. photokina will also remain unparalleled with respect to its visitor structure. The numbers of visitors who have pre-registered shows that photokina will once again reach all of the relevant target groups: the international specialist trade with its top buyers as well as the professional users and general consumers.

The organizers have set up the Mobile Imaging segment as a new product group. Taking pictures with cell phones is now very widespread and the associated market is one of photography's most rapidly growing segments. Experts believe that around 700 million smartphones will be sold worldwide in 2012. The manufacturers of these devices will exhibit in the photokina showcase area, where they will be joined by network providers and app creators. One of the companies gained by the organizers for photokina, HTC, is a very important, internationally renowned market player in the mobile imaging sector. In addition to exhibiting at its own attractive stand area, HTC will contribute content to the Mobile Imaging event area.

At "shoot movie Park", photokina 2012 will provide a thematically tailored special area where professional photographers can obtain comprehensive information on how to include the creation of photo camera videos in their range of services. A total of 28 companies - including premium partners Canon and Zeiss - will be presenting their products and services for this special segment to an international audience.

This year's photokina will once again provide a comprehensive range of offers for the international photography and imaging specialist trade. In addition to expert panels on the future of the photography and imaging specialist trade and pure information at the traditional GfK Market Briefings, the offers will range from the online Matchmaking service to the International Buyers' Lounge at Entrance North. Specialist dealers who would like to visit photokina will also benefit from a comprehensive range of discounted flight and train ticket offers for trips to the trade fair.

At photokina fine art, the offers are targeted at professional users and ambitious amateur photographers. Because the demand for fine art prints is increasing, the producers of fine-art media offer a comprehensive portfolio of the most diverse types of paper which have a marked influence on the image due to differences in surface properties. Large photographic service providers are also increasingly recognizing this and offering their customers fine-art papers, which will in turn generate further growth in the market. Because of this, the fine-art sector is opening up more and more to end consumers, and is no longer strictly the reserve of professional photographers. At the special area "photokina fine art - see me, feel me, print me, " all of these customer groups can find out how the various printers and types of paper can influence the resulting print and how that affects the impression the picture makes.

photokina 2012 will once again feature numerous high-quality photography exhibitions that will address topics ranging from photo documentation and photo design all the way to photo journalism and photo art. This year's highlights will include Uwe Ommer's Teens & Families project, Manfred Baumann's VISION and the International Photographic Council (IPC) exhibition titled United Nations: Seven Decades of Photography, which uses pictures to document the UN's work all over the world.

At this year's event, companies that stage an international competition for professional photographers will, for the first time, have the opportunity to present the entrants' best images on the Boulevard of Competitions to photokina visitors from all over the world. The best images from the Hasselblad Masters, the Canon Promotional Award for Professionals, the Sony World Photography Award 2012 and the Lumix Multimedia Awards will be on show in the northern section of the Boulevard at the premiere of this new exhibition opportunity.
