GaLaBau 2012: Record figures in the anniversary year

From 12th to 15th September 2012, around 60,000 landscape gardeners, landscape architects and clients from cities and municipalities are getting together in order to find out about the latest building materials, plants and machines. GaLaBau, which is taking place for the 20th time this year, is the europe's leading trade fair for the development and design of gardens, landscapes, sports fields, and playgrounds. 1,153 (2010: 1, 078) companies, 253 of which are international (2010: 188), are exhibiting in twelve exhibition halls and in the two outside demonstration areas.

Green is becoming increasingly popular. The order books of most GaLaBau companies are full until the end of the year. The construction, modification and renovation of private gardens are in great demand. "A number of people prefer to spend their money than to save it at a very low interest rate. If the weather in the last few months of the year plays along, we will achieve a further growth in turnover of more than five percent in 2012", predicts August Forster, President of the BGL. The total turnover of the green industry increased to more than 5.5 billion euros for the first time in 2011. This turnover was achieved by 16, 460 specialist companies and a total of 95, 365 employees. This positive market situation is reflected at the trade fair.

Additional hall used
"GaLaBau is a must-attend event for the green industry. Here, landscape gardeners get new ideas or prepare for forthcoming investments in their fleet of vehicles and machinery. The demand from the manufacturers is also correspondingly high. In the area of construction and maintenance machines, in particular, but also in building materials, we are experiencing tremendous growth this year, meaning that we had to use Hall 3 as an additional exhibition hall, " says Stefan Dittrich, Project Manager of GaLaBau at NürnbergMesse, who is delighted about this development.

Special Show "tree care and tree climbing":
Live climbing demonstrations

Maintaining and caring for trees is the task of tree climbers. They cut out deadwood, for example, attach crown bracing systems or, if necessary, take down a tree from the top, piece by piece. In comparison to traditional methods, tree climbing is cost-effective, associated with relatively little effort and is realisable even under difficult conditions, e.g. on rough terrain. Tree climbers and tree surgeons are specially trained for this. Everyone who is interested in this is in the right place at the special show on tree care and tree climbing in Hall 7A, Stand 7A-402. Every day, experts are to give presentations on "tree climbing and tree care" there. Climbing demonstrations are also to take place on a rig in the exhibition hall.

Deutsche Golfplatztage and Golf Congress enter the third round
The expert section Deutsche Golfplatztage is taking place for the third time during GaLaBau. Around 120 exhibitors are presenting a comprehensive range of products for the construction, maintenance and management of golf courses at their exhibition stands. The visitors to Deutsche Golfplatztage are mainly green keepers, managers and operators of golf courses. The central point of contact is the "Meeting Point" in Hall 4A, in which all the participating golf associations are exhibiting. These include: Deutscher Golfverband (DGV) (German Golf Association), Bundesverband Golfanlagen (BVGA) (German Association of Golf Courses), Golf Management Verband Deutschland (GMVD) (Golf Management Association Germany), Greenkeeper Verband Deutschland (GVD) (German Greenkeepers Association). The Köllen + Druck Verlag publishing house is also exhibiting there. On 13th and 14th September, the Golf Congress is to take place in NCC Ost. The programme includes important current topics for golf course managers and operators.

PLAYGROUND expert section: focus on safety in playgrounds
For GaLaBau, Hall 1 of the exhibition centre is turning into a giant playground. Seesaws, climbing frames, swings, suspension bridges – all these and a lot more can be seen there. Around 100 manufacturers of playground equipment and leisure facilities are presenting their products and innovations, in which planners and clients in cities and municipalities, in particular, are interested.

The focus is "safety in playgrounds" in the newly created PLAYGROUND forum, which is organised by the Bundesverband für Spielplatzgeräte und Freizeitanlagen Hersteller (BSFH) (German Federal Association of Playground Equipment and Leisure Facilities Manufacturers), in cooperation with the trade journal Playground@Landscape. The association and its members speak out strongly in favour of the annual main inspection and the inspection of newly installed equipment in playgrounds being conducted by qualified people. In the technical report DIN SPEC 79161, the association laid down criteria for the training of qualified playground inspectors. In addition to presentations on playground safety, other interesting topics relating to the design and construction of playgrounds are also on offer.

Specialist presentations for campsite operators for the first time
The Landesverband der Campingwirtschaft in Bayern (LCB) (Bavarian Camping Industry Association) is cooperating with GaLaBau for the first time this year. At the trade fair, camping companies can find information on products and services for the development and maintenance of campsites and parking spaces for camper vans. The LCB is also organising two specialist presentations on the subjects "Environmental education and nature discoveries" and "Tourism and biodiversity". The presentations are to take place in the PLAYGROUND forum in Hall 1.

BGL organises attractive supporting programme
Alongside the comprehensive range of products presented by the exhibitors in the exhibition halls, GaLaBau offers an extensive and attractive supporting programme for landscape gardeners, which is organised under the aegis of BGL.

The titles of the BGL specialist conferences this year are:

"From building to open space–practical knowledge: professional façade connection" (13th September)
"Living walls: vertical gardens – the green future" (13th September)
"Healthy urban development needs real green" (14th September)
"Benefit from change: Practical steps to more success"
(14th September).

Presentation of the ELCA "Ecological Construction" award
At the opening ceremony on Wednesday, 12th September 2012 at 10:00, the ELCA "Ecological Construction" award will be presented to a particularly outstanding GalaBau project in Europe once again this year. Together, the ELCA (European Landscape Contractors' Association) and the BGL want to promote interdisciplinary cooperation between building contractors, landscape architects and landscape gardeners with the presentation of this award.
