Tendence 2012: the trend and order platform for the jewellery business

From 24 to 28 August 2012, around 300 exhibitors from all over the world will present their latest jewellery collections in the growing Carat product segment of Tendence.

The Carat segment offers a wide range of products from costume jewellery, via genuine and silver jewellery, to unique, hand-crafted pieces and watches. For five days, Tendence is the meeting place for important suppliers of precious stones, pearls and genuine jewellery, such as Ruppenthal, Govind Jain, CC Pearls, Di Perle and Alfred Schmiesing, as well as for manufacturers of silver, design and costume jewellery, such as Coeur de Lion, Dazzl Design, Gubo, Heide Heinzendorff, Langani, Lizas, Potin, Silberwerk, Sim and Tezer.

At Tendence, jewellery buyers can not only discover the latest products and trends for the coming autumn, winter and Christmas season but also place last-minute orders for the Christmas business.

Another advantage of Tendence is the broad spectrum of products on show. At the fair, jewellery buyers have the chance to discover potential supplementary assortments. For example, a floor below, in Hall 9.2, they will find over 200 international exhibitors, including brands such as Ahmaddy, Brasi & Brasi, lemonfish, Louis & Louisa, Noi Home + Fashion, Zipitbag, Top Team Collection and ZWEI, with personal accessories such as sun glasses, scarves, shawls and bags.

The range of products at the fair is rounded off by trend shows, promotional areas for young design, such as 'Talents' and 'Next', and awards ceremonies.

Young design is a traditional part of Tendence with the 'Talents' and 'Next' promotional programmes. In the 'Talents' area, 19 selected students, university graduates and young designers have the chance to show their first jewellery creations and small product series in the international environment of Tendence.

This year, the 'Talents' promotional programme celebrates its eleventh birthday. To mark this occasion, there will be a special show entitled 'Talents 10+1' in Hall 11.0 where visitors will be able to see presentations by eleven former 'Talents' whose careers took off after taking part in a Frankfurt consumer-goods fair. A larger selection of designers who launched their careers as 'Talents' at Ambiente or Tendence will be portrayed in the accompanying book, '10+1 Talents. Messe Frankfurt. Eleven Years of Young Design in Progress'.

The 'Next' promotional programme is aimed at young companies with a design background, which have already gathered business experience and now want to become established in the consumer-goods sector. The 'Next' area is also located in the Carat product segment of Hall 9.3.

Carat! on Stage – lecture area

The jewellery sector has its own established lecture area, 'Carat on Stage', in Hall 9.3 where well-known speakers and companies will discuss trends, communication and marketing issues and production methods in the jewellery industry. The speakers include interior architect and TV presenter Stefan Suchanek from Raumkunst, renowned author Thomas Wege, an expert on success factors for the trade, and Sinn Spezialuhren GmbH.

Jewellery: I just love gold and silver

The Carat on Stage programme includes the presentation of awards to the winners of the design competition of the European Academy FBZ Ahlen at 11.30 hrs on 26 August. The focus is on arm and neck jewellery made of gold and silver. The nominated products can be seen in the associated exhibition entitled 'I just love gold and silver' in Hall 9.3.

Arts & crafts at Tendence

Another highlight of the fair is the 'FORM 2012 – the best from crafts and industry' exhibition in Hall 11.0, which presents judged products from the competition of the German Arts & Crafts Association (Bundesverband Kunsthandwerk – BK). As in the past, there will also be a joint presentation by BK members in the Carat segment and at Personal Accessories in Halle 9.2.

Particularly creative products have a good chance of being selected for the Hessian State Award for German Arts & Crafts. The promotional prize for outstanding hand-crafted and artistic works has been presented at the consumer-goods fairs in Frankfurt since 1951.

This year, the awards will be presented by the Hessian Minister for Economics, Transport and State Development, Florian Rentsch, in the Portalhaus building of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre at 19.00 hrs on 27 August 2012. The address will be given by Matthias Wagner K, Curator in Chief of the Museum for Applied Art, Frankfurt.
