Messe Frankfurt to become one of the Czech Grand Design Award key partners

Messe Frankfurt, the leading German organizer of trade fairs, has decided to support the Czech design and Czech manufacturers and to become one of the key partners to the Czech Grand Design Award and the Manufacturer of the Year Award. This cooperation is well founded - Frankfurt fairs host about 250 Czech exhibitors every year.

"The Czech consumer goods market has a great potential – especially in the design oriented segments. That is why Messe Frankfurt decided to meet the needs of Czech design-oriented companies and help them develop their market penetration. I was very pleased to start cooperating with Profil Media and, under the umbrella of Profil Media activity – the Designblok, Czech Grand Design Award, and the Manufacturer of the Year award – support the Czech creative design. The very best of the Czech design will be exhibited at international consumer goods and design fairs – Ambiente and Tendence – in Frankfurt am Main. These fairs will help the Czech manufacturers and designers open the door to new business partnership in Europe as well as globally, " says Detlef Braun, director of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.

"The Czech Grand Design Award and Messe Frankfurt have concluded a strategic long-term partnership agreement. It is an important step forward in the support of the Czech design – the key objective of the Czech Grand Design Award. The chance to exhibit their products at one of the leading European fairs will make a significant difference – it will open the gates to foreign markets and consumers. By supporting the Czech businesses, Messe Frankfurt expressed their interest in the Czech market and production. We believe that the new partnership will soon bear fruit in both marketing and trade. It is definitely yet another step in building friendly relations between the Czech Republic and Germany, " said Jana Zielinski and Jiří Macek, organizers of the Czech Grand Design Award.

The Academy of Design of the Czech Republic - Czech Grand Design Award

Since 2006, the annual awards have helped draw attention of both professionals ant the lay public to outstanding achievements in the field of design. The awards have facilitated media coverage and helped the public at large gain more information and get better access to the Czech design.

The award ceremony is a great opportunity for the designers to meet with potential partners and to present their work to the public. The reason for first introducing the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic Annual Award and appointing a jury (a pool of design theoreticians, curators, critics, journalists, and publicists) was to establish a mechanism to regularly award and present to the public designers and their products without them having to register. The pool of experts – members of the jury – is wide and the Academy votes in three rounds. The period covered is November through November.

The Annual awards of the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic - Czech Grand Design Awards - are awarded in the following categories: Designer of the Year, Fashion Designer of the Year, Graphic Designer of the Year, Photographer of the Year, Store of the Year, Manufacturer of the Year, and Discovery of the Year.

The Academy also announces the designer of the year who is subsequently entered in the Hall of Fame.
The designer who collects most votes across all categories becomes the Grand Designer of the Year.

Profil Media
Profil Media – headed by Jana Zielinski and Jiří Macek – has been active not only as the driving force behind the Czech Grand Design Award, but also as the Designblok – Prague Design and Fashion Week - organizer. For fourteen years, the Designblok has been an event highly appreciated by professionals as well as the public at large. Czech visitors mingle with foreigners, representatives of the media, experts, start –ups as well as established designers and manufacturers. One of the key missions of the Designblok is to team up designers and manufacturers. Profil Media also manages a gallery – Křehký – in which one can admire limited editions designed by Czech and foreign designers (Alfredo Haberli, Richard Hutten, Maxim Velčovský, Tomáš Král and others). Last but not least, Profil Media is the organizer of the Art design festival Křehký Mikulov, taking place in South Moravia for the second time this year. The organizers have done an exceptional job and managed to offer to the visitors a grandiose atmosphere of the Mikulov castle in combination with the contemporary design.
