NürnbergMesse post 20% increase in turnover

In contrast to 2009, the year which was better by comparison due to the programme of events, the NürnbergMesse Group is concluding the turbulent 2011 business year with an increase in turnover of around 20% to over 165 million Euro. For the coming financial year, 2012, the Nuremberg company is striving for new record results in the areas of turnover and profit. The company is about to embark on an extremely strong trade fair year with the fairs in Nuremberg and the subsidiaries in Brazil, China and North America. Within the NürnbergMesse Group turnover is therefore once again set to climb above 200 million Euro.

"2011 can best be described as "slightly cloudy with sunny spells", said Dr. Roland Fleck and Peter Ottmann, the new Managing Directors at NürnbergMesse, in summarizing the past 12 months. "Overall this corresponds to a two-year observation of the weather situation we expected", the two went on to say. With the conclusion of this business year NürnbergMesse expects turnover of between 165 and 170 million Euro (2009: 132.7 million Euro) and will thus achieve the second best figures since the company was founded in 1974. The annual result forecast includes a shortfall of around 5 and a half million Euro (2009: 6.2 million Euro). As a result, the Nuremberg company is achieving an approximately 25 per cent better result than was originally posted in the economic plan.

Overall, the 172 trade fairs, congresses, public events and company events within the NürnbergMesse Group portfolio can boast a slight increase in figures for 2011: 25,700 exhibitors (2009: 24,600) coupled with net exhibition space of 755,800 m² (2009: 738,500 m²) and 1.12 million visitors (2009: 1.12 million). The international visitor share has increased by 28 per cent to 167,500, while international exhibitors have risen by 17 per cent to 9,514 and international net exhibition space has grown by 25 per cent to 216,000 m2.

Best preconditions for 2012
Traditionally trade fairs are regarded as one of the most important marketing instruments for companies in the B2B sector. Nothing has changed here, even in times of economic turmoil. "But the question: "What will happen now with the world economy in 2012?" can currently more or less be answered just as reliably as the one about a white Christmas", remarks Fleck. The development of the macroeconomic environment continues to be extremely volatile and unpredictable. The experts' forecasts have also become increasingly cautious and subdued in recent times. "Particularly in times of turmoil, our clearly defined sector trade fairs with stringent concepts, short durations and a clear target-group focus offer safety, security and reliability for our customers", says a convinced Roland Fleck.

In total, NürnbergMesse has over 50 trade fairs and around 50guest events on its 2012 programme, also including some events being held for the first time. "The best example of a new fair, which at the same time is a logical further development of an existing trade fair component, is Enforce Tac – the trade fair on the themes of Law Enforcement, Security and Tactical Solutions – which from 2012 will be held as a complementary event to IWA & OutdoorClassics an established event for over 35 years", says Managing Director Dr. Roland Fleck, picking out one of the premieres. The newcomer once again slots in with the theme of security and safety (FeuerTRUTZ, it-sa, Perimeter Protection) at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre.

Foreign markets continue to be the focal point
As is currently the case in Europe, the world economy is also operating at two speeds. The global prediction for 2012 is currently at around 2.6 per cent. The growth predictions for the threshold countries are however as high as seven per cent.
That is why new events are bolstering the NürnbergMesse portfolio also on a worldwide level. With the acquisition of InterBev, the North American subsidiary is further extending the segment of beverage technologies for the Franconian trade fair company. With Brau Beviale, which is traditionally held in October in Nuremberg, NürnbergMesse has made a name for itself in the sector, and as the new promoter of the most renowned beverage trade show in the USA, can draw on many years of experience and knowledge of the sector. With NürnbergMesse's expertise in North America, the Mexico Pet Expo & Conference, whose Brazilian sister-fair, Pet South America, has now been successful for over 10 years, will be launched in Mexico in June. In addition, Pet Rio, another fair focused on pets' supplies, will celebrate its premiere in Brazil from next August.

On the other side of the world too, NürnbergMesse has a new event in store for 2012. NürnbergMesse China is responsible for the supporting trade fair in connection with the 2012 FISITA World Congress of Automobile Engineers in Beijing. But NürnbergMesse is not only flying the flag abroad with its own and guest events. For the coming trade fair year the fair company has received 31 commissions to stage events from federal governments and states in economic boom regions such as Brazil, Russia, China and India. The foreign strategy adopted by NürnbergMesse is also aimed at making a key contribution to the company's increased turnover in future. Whereas previously around ten per cent of total turnover was accounted for by the foreign subsidiaries, the aim is to increase this to 20 per cent by 2020.
