Jean-Paul Gaultier to present his Christmas tree at Christmasworld

Christmas and design go hand in hand. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the cooperation between Christmasworld and the 'Association Les Sapins de Noël des Créateurs'. The creative potential of the Advent season and Christmas found its expression in the festive charity gala in Paris on 5 December. The biggest names from the fields of fashion, architecture and design had offered their talents for a good cause and created some very striking interpretations of Christmas trees. The unveiling of the designer Christmas trees before a select audience and with all the artists present was followed by an auction. The proceeds, which amounted to a total of € 72, 100, will be donated to the 'Association pour la Vie-Espoir contre le Cancer (A.V.E.C.)', a children's charity.

At the end of January 2012, the glitz and glamour of the fundraising campaign will reach as far as Frankfurt, because Christmasworld is bringing the Christmas tree designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier to Messe Frankfurt's exhibition grounds. During the fair, the French fashion designer will personally present his tree, which he created from fine green silk threads, in a special area in Hall 11.1. Exhibitors and visitors to Christmasworld will not only be able to admire the Christmas tree there, but will also have the opportunity to win this treasure at the end of the event. The charitable idea behind Les Sapins de Noël des Créateurs will be carried on in Frankfurt as well: A generous donation from Messe Frankfurt will help to support the 'L'Enfant @ l'hôspital' children's charity, founded by Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the wife of the French president.

Together with these very special Christmas trees, the exclusive charity gala, which was held at the Salomon de Rothschild hotel in Paris, attracted a glamorous gathering of guests. There were some very unusual creations on show, for example, a tree designed from mannequin legs, a picture of a Christmas tree presented on an easel or a nutcracker Christmas tree. More than 30 artists were involved in the design of this year's trees, among them the fashion houses Chanel and Dior, Diane von Fürstenberg, Pierre Hermé, Stella McCartney and Trussardi. The guests, who also included Christmasworld exhibitors Klaus and Birgit Müller-Blech from the Inge-Glas company, were able to take part in the auction. The minimum opening bid was € 500. "We are very pleased that our bid for the knitwear-Christmas tree, which was personally designed by Stella McCartney, was sucessful", said Klaus Müller-Blech, Managing Director Inge-Glas. The couple bought the tree for € 3,500. "In view of the fact that the sum is donated to a chilren's charity, we were only too happy to make this bid", is how Müller-Blech explains the high bid in the auction.

Another exhibitor at Christmasworld who was successful at the auction was Jean-Paul Meus from the Belgian Meus company, whose bid was accepted for even two trees. One of the trees he purchased was created by the Belgian fashion designer Dries van Noten and is composed of delicate shimmering baubles. "As a Belgian, I am of course especially pleased about the designer tree by Dries van Noten", said Meus. "Taking part in the event has been a great pleasure for me."

At the end of the event a total of € 72.100 had been collected as a donation to A.V.E.C. (Association pour la Vie-Espoir contre le Cancer). The charity, which was founded by Professor David Khayat, is dedicated to fighting children's cancer.
