Messe München achieves a record result in 2010

In 2010 Messe München International generated record sales of €301.8 million. Messe München GmbH ended the year with sales of €257.9 million, which was €16.4 million above forecast. With a significantly higher EBITDA of €80.4 million, the company is highly profitable. Around €50 million of sales were generated abroad.

Key contributors to this exceptionally good result were the major events of bauma, ispo, IFAT ENTSORGA, EXPO REAL and electronica, and abroad bauma China. In fact, almost all Messe München´s events, both at home and abroad, grew well, turning in record numbers of exhibitors and visitors.

Part of the secret to this success is seen in the SPEED programme to increase efficiency and growth, launched in spring 2010. Its aim was to sustainably improve competitiveness and at the same time to enable the company to run its operations independently, i.e. without any subsidies from the shareholders. After just one year in operation the programme brought an increase in company earnings of around €19 million.

In the current year of business, it is already clear that the upwards trend is continuing, in all areas.

New visitor records were achieved by BAU and transport logistic. inhorgenta, too, expanded again, surpassing even the already excellent figures it achieved in 2010. Business in the Guest Events Department was equally positive. The exhibition space for Intersolar has more than doubled since the event was first attracted to Munich in 2008. Intersolar is thus the most successful guest event acquired by Messe München in its entire history.

In the events abroad, too, growth is continuing, with significant exhibitor and visitor records being set across the board. LASER China, for example, turned in a rise in visitor numbers of over 30%, and at electronica & productronica China the exhibitor numbers increased by a further 28%. Also successful was the premiere of a new construction machinery trade fair, bC India, a joint venture between Messe München International and AEM, the North-American Association of Equipment Manufacturers.
